#Philosemitism
Was there a Euan something who had a similar brand of philosemitism to her back in the day?

Philosemitism is often, IMO, a sort of other side of the coin of antisemitism, because it often essentially takes an essentialist reading of who Jews are but is built on the idea that those stereotypes are positive.

weaponized imperial philosemitism

Eugenics, anti semitism / philosemitism, racial hierarchies

I mean it wouldn't surprise me if he had a hand in selling the pipes for the gaschambers.

Yeah man, I can spew contradictory nonsense while couching it in philosemitism, too

This is the problem I had, I kept coming up with ideas but couldn't find anyone who'd written papers on it.

I wanted to find one that said philosemitism was a form of antisemitism cos it utilised the 'Jews are puppet masters' trope in a deconstructed way, but nobody had written that then.
dont make me tap the sign

There's like an entire group of "former" neo-nazis on Twitter who became pseudo leftists after Oct 7th because so much of the online right embraced philosemitism and left them politically homeless

Also one needs to balance any excess philosemitism 🙃

according to the zionist:

antisemitism is the opposition to a state with illegal nuclear weapons, that routinely expands its borders and has committed genocide;

and philosemitism is the assertion that rape, theft and murder are innate to the jewish character and culture.

she’s definitely dealing with a mountain of internalized and externalized misogyny, a major obsession with anglocentric beauty standards, an exhausted cold-war-propaganda-fueled geopolitical mindset, a disgusting case of philosemitism, and a blinding commitment to islamophobia

I think that, at root, the absolute obsession with the conflict that many have is rooted in antisemitism or philosemitism. And when they get more involved, that can come to the fore. (obviously doesn't apply to Jews or Palestinians)

...but that has not so much erased Jews from antisemitism as put them at a sort of orthogonal position between antisemitism and philosemitism, what Zygmunt Bauman calls "allosemitism."

Most people in Gaza would benefit in the long term, if western political parties abandoned their often obsessive philosemitism, and their taboo on opposition to the territorial demands of the Jewish people - which have caused so much suffering.
Who in Gaza benefits from answering the accusation that pro Palestine activism is antisemitic with basically “yeah, it is”? Even if that wasn’t immoral on its own terms

And, furthermore, in many respects, the fact that racial antisemitism culminating in Nazism is seen as the European sin par excellence, atonement for Europe means philosemitism that attaches itself to hatred of a specter of supposedly Jew-hating Muslim foreigners...

Non-Jews wearing tallitot practically always rub me the wrong way. Also, it serves as a good example of philosemitism being a weird form of antisemitism.

It’s absolutely this and a lot of the Labour opponents of the Greens are deliberately alighting on the former definition not the latter because performative philosemitism & Islamophobia are in their view both electorally beneficial, marks of “seriousness” and emotionally comforting.

Philosemitism is antisemitic for the record
October 2, 2026 at 3:34 AM
More concerning than the "rise in antisemitism on the left" (which is objectively not a thing), is the rise in philosemitism on the left.

I think thats right but in the British context - where most Jews are right wing - we can parse some beliefs (tho I would note many British Jews look for philosemitism & generic pro Israeliness, rather than precise policy, & define anyone who isn’t those as “anti-Semitic”)

There is a LOT of philosemitism with Zionism and many Jews who supported it as a lifeline to themselves. Calling it antisemitic is lazy thinking that allows you to pretend opposing Zionism is a method for fighting Antisemitism when it is not. One can oppose both, but they are not a two-in-one deal.

i also am not so amiable to philosemitism because liberal christians are often very philosemitic and we see what that means. Christian Zionism is one result

'In what some German Jews describe as “paternalistic philosemitism”, centrist pundits exceed the concern to fight antisemitism where it happens.

Instead, they prop up an idea of absolute victimisation and defend it at all costs.'

I’ve said this before but Melechon makes Jermy Corbyn look like a paragon of both philosemitism and atlantaicism. He’s that bad.

A whole new meaning to philosemitism

Instead of QTing this reply on Indonesian liberals' turn from philosemitism to antizionism I'll screenshot it here. I think attitude to Gal Gadot is the clearest example.
