I don't know anything about the SA-5 sites, but I am guessing that they had a standard layout, like the SA-2, which had a distinctive "Star of David" pattern. It was easy to spot SA-2 sites, and I bet that after awhile, it was easy for photointerpreters to spot SA-5 sites.
