Fun fact: global computer chip production depends on a single piece of technology manufactured by a single company - ASML's photolithography machines.

ASML is a Dutch company. A single ASML photolithography machine just became dozens of millions of dollars more expensive for the U.S. market.

Glad I married the kind of guy who gets me an ASML photolithography machine Lego set for my birthday

i am sorry if this is how you learned photolithography isn't real
grow up
it wouldn't even be hard

is there even a major american photolithography company?

It’s just a EUV photolithography machine, what could it take for the one Dutch company to build more, a week?

If we could send back any amount of written documents back to 1950, but nothing else, what technologies could we bootstrap faster? Lithium-ion batteries? Solar PV? Transistors? Photolithography?

Does the U.S. have a strategic reserve of photolithography equipment? Feels more pressing than crypto

honestly surprised someone hasn't try to get congress to fund a new american photolithography concern

i saw some devslop posters on twitter laughing that the software stack for a photolithography machine took 30 minutes for all the unit tests to run and all changes had to go through a management approval process. like yeah none of the code u write matters or impacts anyone so u wouldnt get it lol

Short all Chinese and European semiconductor companies that use photolithography to produce fentanyl.

Not financial advice.

“actually it’s a process of photolithography on silicon platters”

“like I said, it’s photography, printmaking and pottery”

"Европа няма технологии"

Netherlands-based ASML is the sole global supplier of EUV photolithography machines that are needed to make the most advanced 3nm and 5nm chips.

so true fam! frontier photolithography is so colonialist… fuck those tech bros. we need to return to subsistence farming and stop doing all this infrastructure and technology nonsense!

But if you take a second thing, let it be this: abandoning Europe, where ASML produces photolithography machines to make new chip foundries, to 'pivot' to defending/destroying Taiwanese chip foundries, is ridiculous on its face

I have a crazy idea and it has led me to learning about photolithography and semiconductor fabrication

michigan is a fun place where you can either dance with sexy people in elegant nightwear or you can be a photolithography technician

but not both

choose wisely
can anyone from michigan explain what is happening in this ad

There is a lever that isn't named yet that the EU has to pull if they want to hurt the US - ASML. Their photolithography tech is a requirement for any advanced chip manufacturing, and they're complex enough ASML is on site to make sure they work. Ban export and service and US chip making dies.
