#Physicists#Scientist
AI is certainly making all of this much worse, but every scientist you know, or at least all the physicists, astronomers, mathematicians, and climate scientists, gets tons of emails from men, especially engineers, who think they are Einstein. It’s sad and complicated and messy.

Mary K Gaillard, a theorist who had a knack for telling experimental physicists where to look, died in her home on May 23 at 86.

Dr. Gaillard was an unpaid scientist at CERN for more than a decade, & the first woman physicist hired & tenured at Berkeley:

What I can tell you is that not one professional society that represents physicists or astronomers in the United States has convened scientist practitioners who are also science communicators to talk about how we are going to face these policy challenges in community with the public 🧪

Ok.

I have information that might blow your mind, Gerri-Leigh, but:

MEDICAL RESEARCHERS and PARTICLE PHYSICISTS are not the same kind of scientist.

I'm not a scientist but I think physicists are really fucking up with their so-called "laws of physics". Just write some better ones???

when i worked in restaurants I was taught to stir in a figure-8 pattern, like this America's Test Kitchen video demonstrates

as a professional scientist (not a chef), I remember that advice & wonder: has anyone actually modeled the effects of different stir patterns?

maybe the physicists know? 🧪

“Physicists just pulled off perhaps the coolest road stunt a scientist can do: they loaded a truck up with antimatter and went for a drive.” Via @sciam.bsky.social

And here I thought driving was already a ridiculously dangerous thing to do…

Physicists just took a road trip with a load of antimatter. Here’s how it went
Scientists at CERN built a container weighing about a ton to transport just 92 subatomic antimatter particles without annihilating them

Physicists have long struggled with their goal of making gravity a quantum force. A radical post-quantum approach might solve that problem – and clear up other cosmic mysteries, too

James Clerk Maxwell was a highly significant physicists but "greatest scientist between Newton & Einstein"? Ever heard of some guy called Darwin for example?
Greatest scientist between Newton & Einstein: James Clerk Maxwell, Scottish physicist, died #OTD 1879; formulated Theory of Electromagnetism, four equations which underpin modern information & communication technologies.

Through oral histories, you can discover so much about how a scientist got to where they are and get a fuller picture of history: https://www.aip.org/library/ex-libris-universum/stories-from-black-physicists-in-our-collections-part-three

You are one of the physicists who helped a lot!

The former NASA scientist, however, was Lynnae Quick. <3

Yep that’s right— every single scientist, from geologists to climate scientists to conservation biologists to chemists to physicists— actually just dreams to gene-edit designer embryos for wealthy clients 🙄

If you’re a scientist and you disagree, you’re lying.

Climate scientist Chris Bretherton leads a team training a neural network on data from real clouds. Their model is already competing with traditional simulations to make seasonal forecasts.

The planet is getting hotter, but one factor in particular makes it hard to tell just how hot it will get. Physicists and computer scientists are racing to solve the problem of clouds.

Many of the best rocket scientists in the world were German nazis.

Many of the best nuclear physicists in the world were German Jews.

They... didn't like each other.

But the US was like, "Why not both?" So after the war we brought all of the Jewish physicists and nazi rocket scientists to the US.

In either case, Perón isn’t asking any other scientist to check up on Richter—in fact, the policy is that no physicists may talk to other physicists, for fear of LEAKS, so Richter's free to do his thing pretty much unsupervised
