Piezoelectricity is the future.

Quartz is a common mineral, with some very important and uncommon properties. One is piezoelectricity. When quartz is squeezed, it generates an electric charge. Together, quartz and earthquakes can promote the formation of gold nuggets, that can be quite large.

Piezoelectricity biatch! Just like 😍QUARTZ😍
I may have to choose #Jeremejevite as my champion this year.

until now I had been reasonably certain that piezoelectricity was named after an italian guy, probably called something like Giuseppe Piezo

Piezoelectricity is a wonderful thing.

There has been a lot of talk about piezoelectricity in the match, but little about exposure dating. Vote #quartz in #MinCup26 for the O2 atoms in the quartz crystal structure & the predictable way they are converted into beryllium isotopes when exposed to the Universe and not inside a mountain.

piezoelectricity is just wild to think about

So, it turns out that crystal vibrations can actually heal people. The crystals just need to have been installed in the transducer assembly of an MRI or High Intensity Focused Ultrasound! Also, can one intentionally electrocute ones self with piezoelectricity? youtu.be/U7NvNRzRrvQ

this i believe: "piezoelectricity" should rhyme with "pyroelectricity"

I thought "Piezoelectricity" was static electricity generated from doing paizuri

Piezoelectricity, you can't explain that!

From MinCup24, along with Steve Mould's explanation of piezoelectricity:

#quartz is piezoelectric due to its symmetry (its lack of a center of inversion): if you squeeze quartz it creates an electrical potential across the sides (likkewise an applied voltage distorts the crystal). This can be used to create a resonator that […]

*pushes up glasses* technically, piezoelectricity is when a material is *deformed* and causes electric charge to happen; triboluminescence is when a material is rubbed or torn and causes light to happen. there's also piezoluminescence (same thing as piezoelectricity but with light not electricity)

ANOTHER new OC, her name is Pieza (pronounced Pie-za, as in piezoelectricity)!
Any resemblance to any anthropomorphic tenrecs is completely coincidental.

my most steampunk take is that i think our society moved on too quickly, technologically-speaking, from piezoelectricity after wristwatches. like what do you mean we keep time using rare crystals. why doesn't the whole city run on strange earth vibrations accumulated in precious ceramics

Yesterday we welcomed Dr Yuzhong Hu, who shared his research on organic-inorganic hybrid ferroelectrics and their photoelectric and piezoelectric properties.
We really enjoyed his talk.
Thank you for visiting us, Dr Hu!

I tried, Micah. I thought he was fucking with me. I tried to impress him by saying I was a geologist and he was like so you believe the quartz has powers and I was like … do you believe the quartz has powers? And he said yes and I started to explain piezoelectricity and then noped out.

if you explain to me why we don’t use piezoelectricity in larger applications i will become a towering cumulonimbus cloud and hover immovably over your house, raining storms of blood upon your family for generations to come
