Never made them before but have wanted to. Swapped out plain milk for buttermilk, brushed some piloncillo syrup I made (dark cane sugar used in Mexican cooking) and dipped in cinnamon sugar.

I used piloncillo sugar in my Christmas cake this year. Same boiled method, but this sugar adds a depth charge of rich, treacly flavour.
