Ugandan forest has lots of species, nearby farmland not so much. And if you logged some forest decades ago, don't panic, it'll also harbour lots of species if there's natural forest nearby.

I thought this Ugandan wasp was a Pimplinae and sent it to Turku, but turned out to be a very similar-looking Banchinae. So now he's back here in Kållby.

I thought this Ugandan wasp was a Pimplinae and sent it to Turku, but turned out to be a very similar-looking Banchinae. So now he's back here in Kållby.

These are the wasps we're looking at. Ichneumonidae, subfamily Pimplinae. They lay eggs on caterpillars, spiders, sometimes spider eggs.. the egg hatches and eats the host.
They're also incredibly pretty. 🧪

Anyway, I think I have about 6000 Ugandan Pimplinae wasps, and at least 8000 Banchinae. Still need to tidy the data to be sure, and look through the smaller wasps to see which are banchines.

Better watch out if you're a Cobweb Spider (Theridiidae).
Or you needn't. This particular Zatypota percontatoria won't harm you.

Tomorrow's night train to Turku will have a box of Ugandan Pimplinae wasps on it. Colleague has been sorting the few wasps I left in Turku to species, now we'll see how well these compare.
