The first Irish record of non-native Podosphaera spiraeae on its cultivated host Spiraea in Botanic Gardens in Belfast. Botanic is a hotspot for non-native fungi, it shows how many species are brought in by horticulture.

Thanks to everyone who gave me camera advice – as it turns out my grampa had a small camera he never used lying around that is absolutely perfect. I took it for a test run: here is Coleosporium euphrasiae on Eyebright and Podosphaera plantaginis on Ribwort Plantain.

On Friday I noticed some Gooseberry plants in Train Wood with a powdery mildew on. I've had a look today to satisfy myself that it was Podosphaera mors-uvae, and after staining the conidia I was happy that I could see fibrosin bodies in some of them (an indicator of Podosphaera spp.)

In 2023 I painted Cannabis powdery mildew, caused by several fungi including Golovinomyces ambrosiae, Leveillula taurica and Podosphaera macularis.

The painting shows a female Cannabis sativa flower cluster. The pistils are shown as green oval structures, terminating in two hair-like stigmas. White areas represent the powdery colonies typically found on leaves, stems and buds.

The powdery mildew Podosphaera leucotricha on apple at Gressenhall yesterday. The conidia have fibrosin bodies, which can be tricky to see (and photograph!) but are visible in some of them here.

Podosphaera parietariae, a powdery mildew on Pellitory-of-the-wall (Parietaria judaica), found yesterday in Norwich near to the cathedral. Even though the host plant is common around the city I've only seen this mildew on one stretch of it (and there are only 3 locations on the county database).

Being that close to a milestone I decided to just look for new to me pathogens today

Powdery mildew on a teasel should be Podosphaera dipsacacearum.
And on Epigaea repens should be Erysiphe vaccinii f. epigaeae.
