Yeah, poly/open relationships are super common in queer and furry spaces. I think a big difference is that those start poly or establish it early on. My partner and I started open for various reasons.

also like... wouldn't "ethical cheating" be an open relationship and not poly, per se? afaik poly is about multiple commitments, not <just/only>sexual partners. :T

I've seen a few couples go into an "open" or poly relationship, and if one partner is more enthused about it than the other (which was almost all of them), it never works out.

I distinctly remember like "has a poly partner, isnt" and "is open and poly" "requests consensual polyamory" as a goddamn tumblr/Instagram story infographic. I haven't given a shit about all my partners past/current partners lol I shouldn't need to.

I'm open to the possibility that some version of me could be the former, but I've mostly been the latter because it was only when I basically stopped dating that I was able to unlearn the toxic behaviors and mindsets that made all my relationships (mono or poly) fairly unhealthy.
