POOL OF LONDON (1951) was produced by Ealing Studios, more commonly known for their light comedies. This dark tale of smuggling, conspiracy, and betrayal was a bit of a departure!

Belated mention of Pool of London, shown @tpfilmclub.bsky.social last week in the Chain, linking from Hell is a City by the theme of Britnoir! Basil Dearden’s 1951 film shows London when still a working port, but worth seeing not just for nostalgia but as an exciting crime thriller #PoolofLondon

"The film goes out of its way, sometimes awkwardly, to show London as a place of efficiency and dedication, where the gangsters and racists are bad 'uns, but everyone else is fundamentally decent."

My ★★★½ review of #PoolOfLondon on @Letterboxd.
