I love when I pull up a song on YouTube and people share deep, personal connections like “My mom sang this to me when I was little”, “This song helped me cope with depression”, or “This was my wedding song”
And then the app shows an AI summary that says “Topic: Popular song is popular”

Yeah, but they came out singing the same song as Greens and Reds, got popular, got people interested, and then change large chunks of what made them popular. At best it’s disingenuous …

Nada Surf's most popular song, "Popular", doesn't sound at all like the rest of their catalog. But it's very important to note that both the song and the catalog are totally rad.
Yes: the big early career funny song IS RAD.
The video for "Popular" is likewise rad.

I absolutely LOVE Kompa (popular genre of music in haiti) especially the musicality of it. Towards the latter half of the songs the band takes over and its purse SONIC BLISS!

you wrote a song called "One" about the horrors of war, a song called "Disposable Heroes" about how soldiers are used like pawns and then cast aside during and after war. one of your most popular albums is literally called "...And Justice for All"

Usually when this gets said? The person turns out to be an undercover red hat...you'd kinda have to be to make St Anger. share.google/m43xIJqrPPw5...

The jukebox reminded me that you could put out a popular rock song in the 90s about abortion, and it barely registered as political.

You said it! Let's take the song "Marz". The most beautiful piano intro in popular music genre 🎹, IMO.

The pain when you headcanon a comic or story of yours to a song that you THINK is obscure
then you find out that song has been used in a popular series or movies recently so now it is outta the question in your imaginary adaptation

My experience with a lot of vocap is that I'll find their most popular song and it's cKinda cool, 7/10" and then the rest of their discography is "LITERAL MASTERPIECES 10/10" and I'm always like
Why did THAT one gain traction

More an observation than a whinge, but it's weird what's popular here and what's tumbleweed...
Last weekend: Fried eggs for my kid that took me 5 minutes to make = 2.5k likes
This weekend = a song and video about the live-streaming execution that took over 5 hours to make = 9 likes
Odd, innit? x
