Might have been a mistake shitting on an entire educated class, like populism does.
"We're against everyone who has a degree"
suburbs voting for DEM like rurals vote for the GOP is an arms race the GOP cannot win

Ironically - it's 'populism' in purest form. Burnham is a populist.

It's just right wing populism rather than left on this policy. Magical thinking, simplistic solutions, and not rooted in material reality whatsoever.

but mah populism

This strikes me as an important distinction between the US and Europe when it comes to the dynamics of right-wing populism. The generation that remembers WWII and the Holocaust is dying out. The generation that remembers Jim Crow is still very much with us.
worth remembering that a large part of the black voting electorate is what you might call the first VRA generation — people who would have been the first in their families to turn 18 with the actual right to vote — and that their parents/grandparents lived through jim crow
yeah, so, i think Bluesky may be kind of structurally blind to exactly how mad the organs of Black politics in the South are right now

Its the midterms today.

It’s looking like the Democrats will take the House, possibly the Senate.

Trump will be a lame duck.

Populism will have suffered a huge dent; it’s the start of the end of the project.

That includes in the UK.

I suggested the headline "when garbage populism meets garbage policy" but we went in a different direction

Looking forward to the brief 22 000 word post from Matt Goodwin explaining how this is all another huge victory for National Populism
Trump +18 seat.
Republicans are fucked.

People are dunking on this as a glimpse into Trump's personal pathologies, but it also indicts the New Right more broadly. We're constantly told right-populism is a reaction to liberalism's erosion of "social cohesion," but this shows MAGA actually hates solidarity (across racial lines).

James Talarico’s faith-based populism has built him a huge following, Mother Jones national correspondent Tim Murphy reports.

The message at the heart of Talarico’s campaign is that corruption is crushing the Texas Dream.

Just like you can introduce them to the history of the contemporary toxic populism as originating with Newt Gingrich

IMO, a lot of performative patriotism and populism is being used right now to put more money in the hands of executives and business owners, rather than working-class people. This is an ad Beck put out in 2012 for his new denim lie. I would rather see proof of better wages and benefits for workers.

Populism doesn't really work when there isn't a pop for you to ulism

Yes! I like "cheerful populism"! It seems so obvious, but people like Haley Stevens have reminded me that so many politicians are in it for bizarre reasons and struggle to appeal to normal people because of it

Former UK Conservative MP David Gauke: “Anyone who thinks that the route to electoral success for right of centre parties is to embrace populism should be paying attention tonight.”

This is what all this hate and right-wing populism does to people. We really can do so, so much better. America first.

This is more or less JD Vance’s entire personality. The populism of an elite aspirant.

If you listened to it rather than just read Aaron's synopsis, you might know. He's stealing populism from Trump saying real populism is giving people health care, giving them affordable housing, stopping billionaires. He is using a rhetorical trick of turning the claim back on Trump.
November 2, 2026 at 10:08 PM
It's a rhetorical move. Do you want to cede populism to MAGA? Do they get to own it? What he is saying is clear: MAGA claims its for the everyman; the people left behind. *So am I*. So if you are, prove it. Support expanding health care; expanding housing; taxing the rich. Take back populism.

That's what centrists are for, to tell you when fascism is better than populism. They serve no other function.

I think downplaying housing costs as a problem is not the right move and is not necessary to combat "vibecession" populism. Sorry, Will, can't agree with you on this one

Online science communication is increasingly filled with populist rhetoric that impugns the motivations of scientists and questions the value of scientific institutions.

Author and physicist Prof Dan Hooper
calls this phenomenon “science populism”.
