The opposite of originalism. The Founders assumed Congress would jealously guard its prerogatives, not abdicate its constitutional responsibilities

It would be cool to have a legislature that acted to defend its own constitutional prerogatives and, maybe as a treat, the interests of the people it represents too.

The Founders assumed Congress would defend its prerogatives, not sit passively as the Constitution is subverted
Congress must act. “This is a takeover of a major component of the legislative branch,” the expert tells Rolling Stone. “There’s no reason that they’re going to stop there.” www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

The Founders feared foreign influence over leaders and assumed Congress would jealously guard its prerogatives. And yet the ostensible proponents of originalism look away.
Mike Johnson: "Look, I've been a little busy on reconciliation, so I'm not following all the twists and turns of the Qatar jet. My understanding is it's not a personal gift to the president ... other nations give us gifts all the time ... it's not my lane."

The wages of the WHCA’s public silence on the White House’s unlawful retaliation against the AP are even bolder encroachments against the free press’s prerogatives.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announces that the White House Correspondents' Association will no longer choose the pool reporter.

"Moving forward, the White House press pool will be determined by the White House press team."

Keith Ellison: "It is in the DNA of American history that the federal government cannot trample over the prerogatives of the state. That's exactly what's happening here and that's exactly why we're going to court."

God forbid Congress assert its Constitutional prerogatives.

Reminder: if you predicted half the things happening now (threatening to take Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal; lawless mass firings; complete defiance of Congressional prerogatives; mass pardons of violent supporters) even a couple of years ago, Serious Thinkers would have dismissed you.

An authoritarian bootlicker - the Founders are rolling in their graves. They thought the Congress would defend its prerogatives against a tyrannical executive branch.
House Speaker Mike Johnson calls for the Senate to "censure" Alex Padilla after he was restrained and handcuffed by FBI agents at Kristi Noem's presser, adding that it is "wildly inappropriate behavior."

So it looks like Republicans want to escalate this!

What we see again and again from the modern American elite is the insistence on receiving the prerogatives and deference due to their positions without any of the accompanying obligations.
The more I think about it, “is fair to expect a senior military leader to stand up to or refuse to accept an immoral, unethical or illegal order from the president or the secretary of defense” is an utterly embarrassing quote and such an indictment of the American officer corps
"I have been asked by some retired officers if it is fair to expect a senior military leader to stand up to or refuse to accept an immoral, unethical or illegal order from the president or the secretary of defense... But fairness is irrelevant."

It’s notable that Trump cabinet secretaries and agency heads, for the most part, are acting more interested in preserving their own prerogatives against Musk’s illegal intrusions than Republican members of Congress are.

I'm waiting to hear some Turley type telling me it's not that Trump is worried about what's in these documents. It's about preserving the institutional statutory rape prerogatives of the office for future presidents.

the utter failure of mainstream media to even pretend to defend *their own prerogatives* from an authoritarian regime is one of the bleakest aspects of our current nightmare.

This farcical bullshit could only work with a a completely supine congressional majority with zero interest in protecting its constitutional prerogatives, so you have to admit Trump understands the political context perfectly
Trump sent a letter to Congress informing them that the clock on the war with Iran reset, and a new 60 days of war can start without consent from Congress.

Who knew that Biden could have simply defied the Supreme Court and ordered his Secretary of Eduction to wipe out student load debt -- I mean, that's all within the executive branch so courts can't interfere the President's prerogatives, right? (🙄)

An asymmetrical, bi-lateral relationship in which one side has extensive responsibilities and limited entitlements, and the other side has extensive prerogatives and limited responsibilities? You got that right: it's gender.
