#Practicalities
Our neighbour is quite ill.
It happened fast.
Don’t dwell on practicalities.
Life can be suddenly consumed by practicalities.
That thing you always wanted to do?
Do it now. Quick.

In politics, we’re torn between ideals and practicalities, aspirations and realities, the world as we want it, and as we find it

But one day a manifesto comes along that reconciles both in every pledge.

A rare moment of clarity and hope

Those planning to attack Farage’s policies to leave the ECHR and other human rights treaties on the practicalities might want to stop and think about how attacking Farage’s plans to leave the European Union on the practicalities worked out in 2016.

I’m loath to admit how many practicalities of giant balls I’ve been mulling over this morning.

Possibly the stupidest idea I've heard in the last few months, which is saying something. Shows utter ignorance around practicalities regardless of the ethics/desirability.
Trevor Phillips proposes banning "remittances" (ie: imposing currency/exchange controls on international cash transfers by foreign nationals from Britain). He says this would disincentivise immigration, in a Times piece saying the Home Secretary needs to go [much] further

Thank you @indiawilloughby.bsky.social

Will be looking into the practicalities of doing this.
Thank you @alicemydaughter for a copy of your brilliant book - Her Name Is Alice. A mother-daughter love story about fighting a world stacked against you. Super relevant. Send a copy to every politician in Britain ❤️✌️🏳️‍⚧️ alicemydaughter.bsky.social

I don't think it's hyperbole to suggest Greta Thunberg is literally, in every meaningful way, tougher & a better leader than any elected official. Every single one. Some much more than others.

Methods, policy, practicalities, those are all beside the point. You need passion, drive & humanity
Greta Thunberg has just been released and she is back on the warpath, exactly like our leaders should be.

Israel will never silence her or the billions who oppose them.

in the early 2000s Rebecca took the time to chat over IRC with a teenaged and gender-confused Me on the practicalities of transition - in a time where being out as trans online was something that could get you socially ostracized. I owe her a lot for that and only hope I can pay it forward.

Trump is obviously an idiot, but I am trying to understand the practicalities of imposing this tariff? It’s not like movies are shipped to the U.S. in tin cans any longer from other countries.

TL;DR it's stupid even before you start diving into the practicalities

today’s word is ‘formication’ which is the clinical terms for the hallucination that bugs are crawling under, on, or out of your skin

“As the both of us worked out the practicalities of implanting spider eggs under her skin, she started experiencing formication.”
I think I want to start a word of the day thread with a carefully curated word list and encourage people to reply using it in a sentence :)
today’s word is “vasoconstriction”

i understand all the legislative practicalities but honestly the biggest obstacle to democratic presidents doing stuff has been the democratic party.

you can gnash teeth all you want but trump has shown us how much the dems just refused to do when they had power. and we should never accept it again
Someone asked me the other day, “If Trump can just do whatever he wants, then a Democratic president can too. why is Medicare for All impossible? Why are reparations impossible? Why is anything off the table?”
Trump bought stock in the UFC’s parent company while promoting fights set to take place at the White House on his birthday, HuffPost has learned

The thing with the “transwomen are not banned from competing they can participate in the open and male categories” lines that makes my blood boil is it never considers the practicalities of where and who I’m forced to compete with nor does it even consider my safety! Thats why it’s a defacto ban!

I cancelled my NYTimes subscription. it’s a stupid breaking point to have chosen, but being fed an article on the practicalities of adding Trump to Mount Rushmore was just too much.

We've had questions from three broadcasters so far, and they have all been about the practicalities and costs. None has asked about the legal/moral issue of retrospectively changing laws so huge numbers of people who have made their lives in the UK will be expelled.

Jackson's goes back to practicalities "How does this work? How are we determining when, or whether, a newborn child is a citizen of the United States. ... are we bringing pregnant women in for depositions to figure this out?"

The SG says it'll be easy in many cases and if SSA is wrong they can sue.
