I work with several state PRAMS programs. The PIDS (PRAMS data collection system) shutdown happened a few weeks ago. There was hope it would come back online but they have now received official CDC notice that no 2024 data collection will continue. @hdhill.bsky.social

While researching the history of bringing bikes on buses, I just discovered something: in the mid 20th century, buses in Australia and New Zealand had hooks on the front or back for mothers to hang prams off! Bus pram hooks were apparently a unique NZ+Aus phenomenon, found nowhere else in the world.

PRAMS is a program to assess pregnancy risk and improve outcomes for both mom and baby. Despite new reports we have not heard the program is cancelled, but data collection has been halted. We still have PRAMS staff and system for now.

Small thing but it's really nice that's it's fully normal to see dads out pushing prams now, either by themselves or with other dads. Never remember seeing it growing up.

One way to keep people docile is to prevent researchers from collecting the data that might reveal the full scope of the harm that's being done (in this case, to pregnant and postpartum people and their infants).
