Beyond excited to share the first preprint from my lab! We teamed up with the bioinformatic legends Yuri Wolf, Kira Makarova, and Eugene Koonin to explore DUF3800, an enigmatic domain associated with numerous phage defense systems. See preprint here www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6....

The three-banded panther worm has a brain structure all its own, according to a 2026 preprint. The finding hints that brains could have evolved centralization before regionalization. #neuroskyence

New preprint from the lab! While your brain 🧠accumulates evidence toward a decision, something is watching the decision process in real time. Is that “something” a separate process with its own circuit? Our new bioRxiv paper tackles exactly that. 1/6 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

New preprint! Baby cries are extremely evocative, prompting specific caregiving responses from parents but aversion in others. How does the maternal brain derive meaning from cries to guide behavior? If you saw our 2023 preprint, this update adds a ton of new data: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Maternal experience unmasks temporal integration for vocalization processing
New parents become highly responsive to infant cries in parallel with auditory cortical plasticity enhancing representations of these calls. To promote caretaking behavior, increased cortical activity...
