A great showing from Seattle people highlighting the precariousness of our democracy and the unchecked power of an unelected oligarch

Like, could the median American household afford the current gas price hit? Yes. Does it create a sense of sudden economic precariousness, as well as having to give up something else? Also yes.

STOP SAYING PRECARITY WHEN THE ACTUAL EXISTING ENGLISH WORD IS PRECARIOUSNESS

IMO this is an under-discussed part of the average person's sense of financial precariousness. When economists say inflation is going down, job growth good, they fail to take into account that ppl are paying to replace every single household appliance every 8-10 years now. Phones/laptops every 3-5
Love how we have all accepted the designed-to-fail stage of capitalism to such a degree that my plumber can warn me to my face "this water heater is not going to last as long as your old water heater" and I just shrug and sigh and he just shrugs and sighs

Wonderful day at Sciences Po discussing precariousness and the far right in the Global South at the DigiLaw Center.

Here’s where Will once again gets out over his skis. Medical bankruptcy, beef prices, climate change, and economic precariousness are all real issues that real people are both experiencing and making plain bad they are concerned about them. These are all very serious issues!
The way you show you’re an enlightened person in the US is to go on and on about medical bankruptcies and beef prices and climate collapse and gas prices and precarity and data centers and how no one will ever own a home. Everything is terrible and getting worse, it’s the one thing we all agree on.

Israel’s strikes on Iran now risk an out of control regional war. Trump’s recklessness and poor diplomacy adds to the danger and precariousness of this situation.

The Trump Administration must immediately work to deescalate.

It baffles me that anyone thinks an electorate exhausted by economic precariousness, more than the sustained memory and political mythology of Iraq, would be up for it.

Hey if anyone there still actually has access to the Eater CMS can you do me a favor and change “precarity” to “precariousness” in the first graf of my 2017 Olive Garden essay, it’s been bugging me for eight years, thank you

Pope Leo at General Audience: “Intrusive and widespread, sadness accompanies the days of many people. It is a feeling of precariousness, at times profound desperation, which invades one’s inner space and seems to prevail over any impetus to joy.” www.vatican.va/content/leo-...

No, precarity is the right word. It refers to precariousness as a general condition for a worker, or workers in general. It has a specific use.

It’s good and necessary that the discussion around Gaiman isn’t just about “bad man did bad things” (though he did).

It’s also about how the wealthy *require* poverty and precariousness to exploit others. They need a ready supply of the vulnerable.

I do take small satisfaction in knowing we all get to witness endless examples of how every rich person is a huge craven coward totally enslaved by the systemic precariousness of their goofy positions under society they shaped. Only small tho since upholding appearances doesn’t even matter anymore.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver on Trump coming to Madison Square Garden

"He's welcome to be here. What makes sports so special, especially when there’s so much that divides people, is it’s something that we have in common."

This is a profoundly uninformed understanding of the Ellisons’ agenda and the fragility and precariousness of American democracy.

The Trump cult as usual goes after those living in precariousness to serve its own despicable interests.

Pirro: "We found people aged 1 to 4 receiving Social Security."

Jessica: "That's the benefit for children whose parents have died."

people who are driving policy in this party do not feel that precariousness personally.

the only ones lately have been AOC and Walz.

The immigration laws in the US are not, for the most part, designed to keep people out. They're designed to create a precariousness that allows for exploitation on a subset of the population. This benefits certain people (employers in certain sectors) but is not good for the country or immigrants.

And I am not in anyway able to “reassure” them that these are merely irrational fears.

I think it is an irrational definition of “economics” not to include people’s assessments of precariousness and stability.

The owner was one of the folks quoted in A Precarious State. I wonder if having WeWork as a tenant is as responsible for any precariousness as whatever is happening on the street.
