tbh I feel like a lot of lib & left activism generally operates from this increasingly outdated preconception that the average citizen is a square who will always trust The Man too much, and that it’s always directionally correct to spread general skepticism about everything, a 60s/70s hangover.
yeah a lotta people who put capital R/C Radical or Critical in front of their job titles seem to operate from the assumption that the university as an institution will never go away so it’s safe to do or say whatever you want within it’s confines or attack the foundations and maaaannnnn I dunno
The Israel-Palestine thing where the Inquisition pokes its nose in from time to time is the new normal and a lot of folks at universities aren’t ready for it because they’re used to being secure enough to prioritize innenpolitik incentives for performative radicalism over external security.

This isn't an unreasonable preconception, because criminals (or their family members) don't usually call the police and ask them to attend the scene of the crime they just committed, unless it's to turn themselves in
