French predreadnought Bouvet, and if you've been here a while you already know the drill - bits sticking out at random, a hull seemingly built upside down, the Tricolour flying as a warning not to copy it etc etc That tumblehome in the hull, fittingly for this post, is partly an ill advised attempt to lose weight (there are other reasons quoted for it, and I'm pretty sure they all contributed to some degree)

French predreadnought Charles Martel. Words cannot describe its awfulness, so imagine instead a man trapped in an invisible box, screaming silently. Forever. Yup. That's the vibe. Ironclad Marceau. Or at least we assume it's somewhere under the enormous cloud of black soot. It had the usual French design cues of outrageous tumblehome and wing turrets etc, but then you notice it's absolutely tiny. It's like somebody tried breeding a battleship you could carry in your handbag.
