I've created feeds to capture tweets about different primary subjects!

I can only create 10 at the moment on @blueskyfeedcreator.com so someone else needs to make RE and PSHCE!

I've done #PrimaryEnglish, #PrimaryScience, #PrimaryHistory, #PrimaryGeography, #PrimaryArt, #PrimaryDT, #PrimaryMusic...

Our #History in #Year6 - ancient civilisations: the Sumer, Indus, & Shang

Our #retrieval linked to civilisations covered in previous years

We discussed what made a civilisation a success & how rivers contribute to their growth & decline

Each week we’ll explore each civilisation #PrimaryHistory

In #Year6, we used multi-link cubes to map early civilisations, helping children see overlaps and challenge misconceptions about chronology.

It sparked great discussions on concurrence, innovation spread, & historical thinking. A few tweaks needed, but a valuable task! #PrimaryHistory #TaskDesign

It's #PollingDay for many in England.

The word #Democracy comes from the Greek dêmos meaning people & krátos meaning power.

In our Greeks workshop, pupils learn who had that power in a fun & practical way! www.historyoffthepage.co.uk/workshops/an...

Well worth having a look what's around your area and thinking how it might fit with your curriculum.

Even something no longer visible could be an exciting hook into a subject.
Part of my walk today was to visit Catstones Ring/Blood Dykes to see what could be seen.

I couldn't see anything of this earthwork which may have been a Roman camp or an older iron age structure.

You can see it on the LiDAR map though! www.archiuk.com

I have no issue with them BUT it's hard to teach about chronological narratives for the first time with them. It's useful to build on something familiar which is why my approach (image below) makes no use of toilet paper... it presents this complexity clearer I would argue #edusky #primaryhistory

This week in #History we delved into the Indus Valley civilisation.

We focussed on the words significant, legacy & innovation first as these are recurring throughout our unit.

We zoomed in on the deliberate urban planning of the Indus Valley.

Year 6 history, spring, lesson one:

spaced #retrieval on ancient civilisations, then a zoom out question on what makes a civilisation successful.

We finished by exploring why rivers keep showing up & touched on how this supported their success.

Start as you mean to go on.

Sumerian innovations. #Retrieval revisited why rivers mattered.

Then shifted to “What did this enable?” irrigation → surplus etc.

Finished with map reasoning on trade with Egypt/Indus & growing power.
