No clear source, even in processexplorer. Check processmonitor. Dropbox's hook dll is rapidly opening and closing all of the files on my desktop at all times

Time to make ProcessExplorer my task manager replacement again (at least until I'm able to switch to Linux).
I swear that Windows is just rotting at this point. Its own systems and tools are becoming more and more unstable and unreliable.

Time to make ProcessExplorer my task manager replacement again (at least until I'm able to switch to Linux).

I've actually had Visual Studio freeze. Tried to use Task Manager to kill it. It froze.
Had to use ProcessExplorer to kill both. At least it's default.
And yeah... it feels like a lot of Microsoft's tooling is progressively "vibe-rotting" and becoming more unreliable.

Win User Profil nach 6 Minuten geladen — PC aber nicht nutzbar wegen ~100 Autostart-Einträgen. Win Defender rülpst dir schon bei der ersten Mausbewegung ins Gesicht. Gesamter Startvorgang in 17 Minuten. ProcessExplorer hat zu kämpfen.

Running out of RAM makes everything 100x slower.
See if you can upgrade the RAM to the maximum and/or have a RAM monitoring program running in the taskbar.
For Windows I'd recommend ProcessExplorer from Microsoft Sysinternals Suit. No idea about Mac...
