Been working on #ProjectRolfmi lately so I could practice making a more simple action game and accidentally realized what was bothering me about #ProjectDevon 's art style...

I just needed to make them more chibi...

Now I'll have to readjust the scale of everything in Project Devon, RIP. 😂
Two character sprites side-by-side. On the left is Rolfmi the mercenary for my hack and slash style game, while on the right we have Devon the doctor and aspiring potionmaker for my eternity project RPG. The sprites are about three heads tall and one pixel of height represents one centimeter. Easy and quite appealing to look at, in my opinion! The older version of Devon's sprite, where he's about three heads tall. In this system 1 and a half pixels represented 1 centimeter of height and it was a nightmare to figure out. This meant I had more space for details but the proportions always felt a bit off to me. Time will tell how the new sprites will look when sitting down with their short lil' legs!

OC-Training: Gerald (2024)
Prompt 5: Personal Life

In ProjectDevon, you can give gifts to the main NPCs to befriend them. But Gerald is a tough one to befriend.

Offer him something he hates and he'll think you're taunting him.
Offer him something he loves and he'll be suspicious.

A screenshot mock-up for my RPG project, showing what might happen when the main character, Devon, gives a gift to the grumpy military officer, Gerald. Gerald loves cold-smoked salmon, especially on a sandwich, but he does not like Devon... So when Devon offers him such an amazing treat, Gerald folds his arms over his chest and narrows his eyes at Devon. Who told you to offer that to me... Gerald asks, suspicion dripping from his voice. I bet you spat in it. Devon's face crunches up with disgust. What. You really think I'd do something that gross?

Yeah, Gerald is defo above average in height! He shares the podium of "4th tallest character in ProjectDevon" with another character. xD

But yesss, Devon is a tiny guy with "small dog personality". :D Not afraid to bark at the bigger dogs!

OC-Training: Gerald (2024)
Prompt 2+3: Profile + Wardrobe

Gem here is one of my favourite guys to draw in ProjectDevon. 😂 I just like drawing my angry fish-man with big, expressive ears and eyes...

He has a lot to deal with and Devon showing up isn't helping.

A pile of references and other doodles of my character, Gerald. He's an about-forty-yeal-old man with short, shimmering hair that feels tough and smooth as fish scales and long elf-like ears that reflect his emotions with their positions. His eyes are significantly larger than a normal human's and he can look quite frightening if he opens them fully, as they open to be fully round like the eyes of a fish. He wears a blue-black-and-silver military suit and looks quite serious. Believe it or not, he's actually quite a friendly guy... but only if he likes you. Unfortunately the story's main character is not on Gerald's friend-list! He's also a werebeast. His beast is a quadrupedal creature that seems like the mix of a roach fish, a sleek hound and a graceful horse. Though all that grace has been sapped out by his crooked tail, spindly limbs with tiny flippers and fish-like face. The beast looks more unsettling than anything, with its large, bulging fish eyes and mane that flops down its face messily.

❈ Devon is an amnesiac doctor in a town where no one knows him
❈ While the townsfolk are lovely, the mental wounds left by the totalitarian theocracy Devon fought against still bleed.
❈ Where in the world is he?

A chibi concept art for my urban fantasy RPG project. Devon is a blond elven guy stuck between two worlds; an idyllic small town run by the military, and a large city torn apart by civil war. A tall man in a purple coat, Jero, offers Devon a rifle and Devon accepts it with a sad face as his romantic partner, Haze, a wing-eared soldier of the military, fearfully looks at Jero and tries to pull Devon back into the idyllic town, away from the rebellion. A screenshot mock-up for Project Devon. It's the closest to finished art style that I've gotten thus far, with the visual novel style character dialogue sprites displayed over an isometric scene showing the characters' positions in relation to each other. We have Devon, his alchemy mentor called Doc and three men from the military, one of which is Devon's future love interest, Haze, a pretty guy with wavy white hair and a blue military suit matching his two higher-ups. In this scene Devon is being assessed for his military-related skills at the shooting range and a prominent antagonist character, a military officer called Gerald, thinks letting Devon roam free is a foolish idea. But if his higher-up says Devon gets to help, so it shall be. And all Gerald can do is poke Devon in the chest and promise Devon that if he causes trouble, Gerald will make sure there will be consequences. A rough sketch for an event CG for my RPG project. Devon is a blond elven guy with chin-length hair, heavy eye-liner and a long tan coat while Haze is a slightly taller guy with long, wavy white hair on a ponytail, small wings for ears and a blue military uniform. After a long day of hunting monsters and whatnot, Devon has walked Haze home under the starry night skies. The streetlamps cast light from a small distance. I don't want to spoil too much of the story, but Haze ends up grabbing Devon by the face and giving him a kiss in the cover of his front door. Devon's face flushes pink and he stares wide-eyed at Haze. This. This is almost in public, gosh, what are you doing? What if someone sees! Oh well, Haze doesn't really care and I don't think Devon will have the brain capacity to say anything anytime soon either.
