When you're working with an editor (or really, with anyone on a professional level), communication is paramount! Everyone is different, and it's not a burden to adjust. The more communication, the better the client relationship.

To me, professionalism means wide-open communication, and it starts before I crack open your document. I don't believe it's possible to learn if you don't understand, and if you don't get something, that's on me to help!

When you read someone's work, it's a glimpse into their soul, and how beautiful is that?

Scared to reach out and ask about the editing process? DM me! I'm very chatty and not scary at all.

I firmly believe that, in an industry that's nearly 100% self-taught, the best way to learn is to ask others. So what would you like to know next season?

Don't be shy, I'm not! 😂

No matter which way you slice it, writing is a personal journey. You're putting your soul on paper and trusting someone to be kind with it. That's not always the case, and that's why I do what I do.

I know many of you have heard horror stories of scammers, but it's no different than any other site nowadays. You plug in what you're looking for, check out the ratings, and trust your gut if things don't feel right.

It's important to ask this of yourself, as the information it yields is invaluable. Crushing it? Sounds like you hit upon something that works for you! So far on track? Progress! Haven't started? Ooohhh, this is a good one! Let's dig in!

When you book a read with me, we work together to elevate your piece, and you are in the driver's seat the entire time! I will always offer my opinion, but that does not obligate you to take it in any way.

Recently, an author recommended Bluesky as a great, welcoming place for authors. As this mirrors my mission statement, I decided to hop on board! For any author who books with me, I'll repost their promo material about the book we worked on for three months.

I get to see a variety of exported docs on my side of the house! For some, Reedsy and Kindle Create are their go-to's. While others use Atticus or Vellum. Other authors use Google Docs, Word, or LibreOffice Writer for their first drafts. What do you recommend?

The real question you should be asking is what an editor can offer you. Are they doing the work for you, or are you learning to never make the same mistakes twice? Do they "get" who you are as a writer?

Sun's out ... pens out? I find that summer is one of the busiest times as an editor (apart from the first of the year when everyone makes their resolutions to write a book). Tell me, what are your plans?

Bonus points if you yawned while reading this! 😂 One of my favorite things is getting so into a read that you start copying the characters. A wink. A half-smile. A yawn! Anyone else?

Indie publishing is a wild world where you can, quite literally, be up for sale on sites within hours. As you start opening yourself up to feedback, eventually, you start to wonder if an editor can further your piece as well.

One of the things that I love most about editing is, ultimately, the collaboration I get to experience when working with authors. I'm not driving, I'm a passenger with a map and a suggestion of a route to take. Where you go is up to you!

Authors who suffer from impostor syndrome are the dreamers who picked up a book and were inspired to write their own stories. Then, one day, someone picked up their book and became inspired, too.
