@govkathyhochul.bsky.social says she's giving PPL #CDPAP to "protect home care users & caregivers." But CDPAP's built on Dignity of Risk, ending ableist tropes that PWD need protection from able-bodied. Consumers see her "protection" more like that from the mob - take it or else.

#PublicPartnershipsLLC, the private equity & union-busting backed group @govkathyhochul.bsky.social wants to give NY's #CDPAP home care to, is complaining they had 1,000 people call them on Day 1. Their transition timetable requires they take about 12,500 calls per day every day.

STATEMENT: Today, CDPAP Begins Transition to a Single Fiscal Intermediary—A Move That Will Harm Workers & Consumers. :For months, New Yorkers on both sides of the aisle have warned that the rush to move CDPAP administration to a single corporation was reckless. Now, with New York set to begin this transition, our worst fears are coming true." "Yet Governor Hochul and PPL insist on barreling forward on a timeline that is destined to knock tens of thousands of older and disabled New Yorkrs and home care workers out of the program. At a time when we fear tremendous Medicaid cuts from the federal government, our state government should be shoring up and supporting home care, not destabilizing and decimating this essential service." Today, NY’s home care consumers and workers who use CDPAP will begin the transition to a single home care Fiscal Intermediary (FI), when phone lines open to move care over to PPL, an out-of-state private-equity backed for-profit corporation... The move could put tens of thousands of home care workers out of work, while leaving tens of thousands of consumers stranded without care. Days before the transition is set to begin, it is clear PPL does not have any of the infrastructure or capacity needed to ensure the move will go smoothly— Insufficient Staffing, lack of accessibility, insufficient time to transfer data, ineffective transition plan. The main reason to oppose this disastrous restructuring of CDPAP is 1000s of older & disabled NYers losing life saving home care, & home care workers losing pay. But also true that this was a corrupt deal from the start between #KathyHochul and PPL.
