In the River Alligin gorge there were soon great lichens on the rocks and trees: Pannaria conoplea, Pannaria rubiginosa, Protopannaria pezzizoides and Coenogonium luteum. #LichenGBI

First day out properly looking at lichens this year. Went to a nearby old quarry with lots of mossy trees and rock. Multiple layers to cope with cold but sun shone all day so lovely to be out.

Only ~20% of #lichens are squamulose: built a bit like overlapping scales. Here are four I've seen in past few months, all firsts for me: Placidium squamulosum, Xylopsora caradocensis, Vahliella leucophaea, Protopannaria pezizodes. Aren't they striking! Tullydermot Waterfall, West Cavan

A nice selection of rainforest species at this modest waterfall just south of Cuilcagh. Fragments of woodland cling on to the banks of the CLADAGH River.

Plagiochila spinulosa and Protopannaria pezizoides were welcome finds.
