Let me make it abundantly clear. Editors can not be replaced by Grammarly or Prowritingaid or hell even Autocrit. Your books will be read by humans and so logically you need A HUMAN to edit or beta read your book. I thought that was common sense, but nah.

Prowritingaid needs to learn that Black is capitalized and that AAVE is not badly written English.

But to enter, you'll need to either a) buy ProWritingAid or b) give them a $20 submission fee.
While some legitimate contests charge entry fees to create the pot of money used to pay winners, I can't help feeling like ProWritingAid & the contest sponsors could afford to just give this mony away 4/?

A couple of weeks ago they were boasting about "partnering" with an AI writing tool as well. Adding @bloodhoundbooks.bsky.social to the "publishers to avoid" pile.

Yep they are sponsored by ProWritingAid which is a ChatGPT powered "writing aid", which actually just writes for you.

ProWritingAid, the NaNoWriMo sponsor that incorporated AI tools suspiciously close to the time when NaNoWriMo said it would accept AI "written" books, is now trying to capitalize on the end of NaNoWriMo with a "Novel Beginnings" contest

Prowritingaid should be that last step before you hit publish. Your manuscript should have already went through a couple editing passes with a human editor and then you do prowritingaid.
But I also run it through prowritingaid before I send it to my editor just to make their lives a little easier.

…And to do all that rhetorical twisting *While Being Sponsored By an "AI" Writing App* ("proWritingAid") is disgustingly disingenuous and outright dishonest and manipulative.
So yeah: Deeply gross moves from nanowrimo.

…But *With All That Being Said*, dressing up "Gen AI" in disability justice rhetoric w/o actually addressing the vast intersectional— including ableist— *harms* of the current paradigm of "Artificial Intelligence" in particular & technologized capitalism, writ large, is actually really fucking gross

Oh my god.
NaNiWriMo being relaunched by ProWritingAid is like a dumpster fire burning bright and someone throws a flaming bag of dog shit into it, hoping that somehow these things combined makes something functional.
