Epistenia coeruleata, formerly of Pteromalidae and now of the newly elevated family Cleonymidae, a parasitoid of potter and mason wasps. supposedly mostly found in the southeastern US but i've caught two specimens in the PNW so far

Pteromalidae sensu stricto is now much easier to key since it's been split into 24 families, but I still gotta fight through old keys with long couplets to get to the genus level, propodeal characters are the worst 🫠

I finally got to sort through the parasitoids (Torymidae, Eulophidae, Pteromalidae s.l. etc) that I reared from galls/larvae of Cecidomyiidae during 2024. Now, 38 samples have been sent to my friend Dick Askew for thorough identification. The docu shots are entirely handheld 🤡

I believe this is a male Pteromalidae, documented parasitoids of Acanthiophilus helianthi in knapweed heads.
