One only has to remember that many American colonists were English migrants, often Puritans. Back in England, clothes carried important social and political connotations. The English Puritans wanted to rid the Church of England of Catholic influence.

John- highly unlikely you dont't have canadian cousins if you're descended from puritans. Many puritan families were "Planters" -relocated from New England after the Acadian Explusion of 1752, and then thousands were expelled after the American Revolution.

I have always believed the Puritans weren’t persecuted, they were just miserable assholes who wanted to eliminate joy and were wisely driven out by everyone that could manage it
