I then use the PyVista library to place the STL file in space and take a picture of each with virtual lighting on. I always take the snapshots from a fixed global isometric position. I use the calculated camera from the largest slice, which ensures all will be in view.

I am currently mad at Python libs and compatibilities - Open3d won't install since my Python is above the version they support :( WTF the Pymadcad lib can't compile, and pyvista isn't working right.

In other implementations that I've seen, there are usually two parameters that define the lighting (to adjust it and make it less/more dramatic). The radius and strength of shades. But it seems it is not possible out-of-the-box for PyVista; they are not exposed.
