Queens was once dappled with ponds and streams that vanished as the borough grew. John F. Kennedy Intl. Airport—originally Idlewild—is a prime example of how massive infrastructure permanently reshaped the borough's natural waterscape.

Named for social reform journalist Jacob Riis, the park's #ArtDeco bathhouse (1932, John L. Plock) originally accommodated 8,000.

2001 Anders Goldfarb photo of the iconic #LongIslandCity Terra Cotta Building on Vernon Blvd next to the #QueensboroBridge. Built in 1892 as HQ for NY Architectural Terra Cotta Works, it housed various construction businesses until 1968. The building was landmarked in the early 1980s. #QPLarchives
