As Kirkmaiden Old Kirk now hurtles towards its quatercentenary, the local community has taken this the kirk back into their ownership and will soon have a whole lot more stories to tell.

We look forward to whatever plans they may have to share the history of this special place in 2038! (5/6)

And tucked inside was this newspaper clipping dating from 1993 I assume, when the quatercentenary was marked 》

My bloodline is “celebrating” a quatercentenary on this continent, and yet somehow my “heritage” doesn’t seem to matter to an administration obsessed with “heritage.”

How quickly we are othered. How quickly my kind will turn on their own.

The roots of the 1st national #Columbus Day in 1892 are largely forgotten: not just a quatercentenary celebration but also a response to the lynching of #Italian immigrants & the consequences for international relations + domestic electoral politics

Today marks the quatercentenary of the death of James VI of Scotland and I of England at Theobalds House, aged 58. Mary, Queen of Scots is a central figure in my doctoral research and the ways in which James interacted with his mother’s controversial memory and legacy are an important part of this.

Many thanks to Prof Nick Maynard for delivering the John Stearne Quatercentenary Lecture in St James’s Hospital. His presentation on ‘Gaza: an attack on healthcare’ was a harrowing description of the effect of the ongoing Israeli bombardment on medical services, staff and civilians in Gaza.
