#Queer(In)Justice
As we move toward pride month, here's your regular reminder that mass incarceration is a queer issue, and opposing it is fundamental to achieving queer liberation in any real sense. www.prisonpolicy.org/blog/2021/03...
Visualizing the unequal treatment of LGBTQ people in the criminal justice system
LGBTQ people are overrepresented at every stage of our criminal justice system, from juvenile justice to parole.

Today SCOTUS, in a grave disservice to queer and trans people across the country, held that statutes banning conversion therapy are subject to First Amendment strict scrutiny. Basically, SCOTUS handed therapists a First Amendment right to torture queer people.

Only Justice Jackson dissented.

Reminder:

Labor justice is disability justice.

Climate justice is disability justice.

Queer justice is disability justice.

Racial justice is disability justice.

Disability is highly intersectional: you canNOT correct ANY of these issues without ACTIVELY including disabled people in every step.

“There can be no queer liberation, not for other queer Jews, not for queer Americans unless we divest from the Israeli war machine and US support to Israel. For me, queer liberation means that we live in empowerment, safety, justice, and solidarity with each other..."

A few thoughts on queer participation in the current pro-democracy rallies in South Korea: Queer visibility isn’t new in Korean social justice movements. LGBTQ communities have long been key players, challenging norms while demanding justice, equality, and accountability: 🧵

For folks looking for context for this legislation and how cops have been doing this using any law at their disposal for centuries may I recommend Queer (In)Justice: The Criminalization of LGBT people in the United States.

And, this is an acceleration.

Who is my social media content for? Do I post evolutionary ecology content, bird conservation missives, academia memes, wildlife photos, queer content, social justice pleas, or religious history?

It's for me, baby. A queer birder and evolutionary ecologist academic with a background in history

birthday gift for a bud who not only deserves kind wishes, but also really genuinely use some visibility, support & advocacy. He's a queer furry who has been deeply wronged by the justice system & his fight is one that concerns the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, please check out my below replies.

you would think queer ppl have learned through the AIDS epidemic that the government lies about disease to kill the marginalized but here we are 5 years into the covid pandemic where most queer ppl have not adopted the understanding that liberation is rooted in disability justice. wear a respirator

Like, it’s a story half of which is about how Justice Jackson wrote one of the most queer paragraphs we’ve ever seen in a Supreme Court opinion.

And, as for me, I’ve been covering trans people’s lives and stories in depth for the past 15 years.

I get people being mad, but lies don’t help.

A lot of queer and leftist spaces still don't adequately handle people who effectively use therapy speak and social justice language in manipulative and abusive ways.
June 26, 2025 at 4:06 AM
i cant wait for some academic or "liberal queer public intellectual" to publish some thinkpiece in the Atlantic about how Justice Jackson Is Queering The Supreme Court
Calling a paragraph written by a fucking judge “queer” is maybe one of the most brain dead, nothing means anything anymore concepts I’ve seen in my entire life as a faggot

There can be no climate justice without queer justice 🏳️‍🌈 Here’s why👇 #PrideMonth
Why there can be no climate justice without queer justice. Explained in 6 blogs - Greenpeace International
At heart, the LGBTQIA2S+ movement and the environmental movement are involved in the same struggle to upend unjust power relations and secure the dignity and equality of every individual.

My point is that this blanket advice that’s like “if you’re queer you need to be armed!” is not good advice. In the scenarios where queer people need to defend themselves with firearms that is effectively going to be the last day of their lives because there won’t be justice for them.
The purpose of owning a firearm for self-defense is to keep the worst day of your life from turning into the last day of your life. Any reasonable firearm owner (which isn't too many of them) understands this.
It’s that thing about how conservatism believes that the law is there to make sure there’s a group that is protected but not bound and a group that is bound but not protected. If you, someone that’s not one of them, uses a gun to defend yourself then you’re going to prison or getting killed.

“Our values of justice and love are being assaulted,” says Rev. Kevin Alan Mann, of the First Unitarian Church of Oakland. Queer and trans folks have been coming into the congregation lately, seeking comfort. “People are needing to know there’s still a safe space in this world.”

The reason we don’t do this in a modern society ostensibly concerned with justice is that ostracisation can be used to get rid of anyone enough people don’t like. A thing which, as a queer person, you should be in agreement is not a valid reason to take away someone’s home and livelihood.
There’s a great deal about ancient Athenian democracy that will not work for us in today’s society— but this might be worth bringing back. Betcha a LOT of politicians would have a different opinion about asylum policy if they knew they could be forced into exile for a decade.

14y later, Queer (In)Justice: The Criminalization of LGBT People in the United States is more relevant than ever, from criminalization of trans folk as inherently “fraudulent” to framing queer & trans people & supporters as predatory & deviant to the role of gender & sexuality in Right wing agendas.
“[A]s LGBT movements have institutionalized, visions of queer liberation have been tamed into a narrow rhetoric of equality within existing systems rather than challenges to the systemic violence and oppression they produce.”—Joey L. Mogul, @dreanyc123.bsky.social @kwhitlock.bsky.social #PrideMonth

Just heard disappointing news that @warren.senate.gov will co-sponsor the Kids Online Safety Act again despite overwhelming opposition from LGBTQ, human rights, abortion rights, and racial justice groups.

This is a horrific betrayal of her constituents, particularly trans youth and their families.
