My attitude is quickbuild is the near-term answer in most US cities. Cars hate rocks, for example; just send truck convoys up from the local corporation yard to the mountains, procure boulders, haul em down, paint em white, remove the parked cars, lay em down, and voila. Design will evolve over time

After our ride to tour quickbuild projects that, with any luck, will turn into permanent infrastructure, I had to sit in some car traffic. But then I saw this sign! An auspicious way to end the evening. (The city is investing in in-house concrete teams to more efficiently install new infrastructure)

City staff has a large list of quick adjustments to street designs they're making right now. They just haven't chosen to prioritize *this* intersection over those.

The best person to contact is the traffic engineer. He and the Public Service crews are running the new quickbuild projects as they hit the ground. I do know that in this spot, there’s been a scheduling snafu between two different crews and it’s only gotten half done, so clearer markings are coming!

Something I also think is helpful for folks to know about these quickbuild projects is that they mostly get installed on Fridays (due to existing workloads of Public Service crews) so if something weird and halfbaked shows up over the weekend, wait a week or two, they’ll be back to finish soon
