Good to see UN at minute 21 with firm questions on NZ’s human rights record and failure to implement key RCOI recommendations from the Christchurch attacks. Goldsmith’s response, starting after minute 38, was difficult to watch, stretched reasoning, and failed to address the core concerns. #painful
Paul Goldsmith (44min) says NZ didn't ban #HateSpeech cos of #FreeSpeech concerns. It banned display of Gang Patches tho Freedom of Expression is in NZ Bill of Rights Act cos freedom from intimidation.

There's plenty of criticism that can be made about NZ's civud response, and MIQ. But if using an NBC story on Charlotte Bellis as the source, and not say the GroundedKiwis judgement, or Ombudsman's investigation outcome or RCOI (when it comes out), makes this a very shallow and unserious argument.

I’m so immensely disappointed, Aliyah. The RCOI had its flaws (the lack of real investigation of the terrorist’s online activity for eg) but the recs are solid, and they placed responsibility with the Crown, who have now dodged it.

I’d encourage everyone to reread the RCOI section on security & intelligence and let’s make sure history doesn’t repeat itself. I especially encourage Media to follow David William’s lead, ask the hard questions. We need government fronting challenges, not looking away. 5/6

I don't see how gutting protections for children in care, while an RCOI on abuse of children in state care was underway can be considered at all left wing.
