AMD has confirmed to us in writing that RDNA1/2 will still receive game optimizations AT THE SAME TIME as RDNA3/4. So this should put the issue to rest, and if this does end up being the case they probably should have just said this and cut the BS.

(Not directed at you personally Phil) my concern is around trust. Years ago, the community got rocm working on RDNA1, submitted patches to amd, and those languished until the PRs became stale. Same for RDNA 2. Same for the DC versions of those GPUs. Official support for anything less than 10K is …

why did they call RDNA1 the 5xxx series

Note that radv commit above exposes this only on RDNA3/4. The commit contains helpful detail that suggests that if you aren't using MSAA, this is also fine on RDNA1/2.

TheRock works now. Should work for instinct too. But yeah, compilation!

AMD windows support right now just sucks ass generally-see: them refusing to implement Vulkan features for RDNA1/2 that they absolutely support (and work in RADV on linux)

AMD dropping RDNA1/2 in the driver following the leaked INT8 FSR4 dll that they were pretending didn't exist is certainly a choice for a company that's on the backfoot

fuck off, guys.

similar raster to a 3060 + GCN5 being generally a better compute architecture than RDNA1/2....honestly if you could *actually run anything* then I could see it.

that is the problem, of course.

RT cards have been a thing since the rtx 2000 series and unless you're running an rdna1 or pascal card more powerful than a gtx 1080 I doubt you could run this anyway.

I wouldn't be shocked if all hands are on deck for UDNA, which bodes well for the future if so but dropping RDNA2 so early is just unacceptable. I get RDNA1, but RDNA2 is bonkers.

They never used numbers after the 5xx series, which were a refresh of the 4xx series and not actually GCN 5.0 as you'd expect from the numbering - that was Vega. Why wasn't RDNA1 the 6xx or 6xxx series from the jump? Computer hardware names are *stupid*, man.

RDNA1 was no surprise once we started getting games requiring hardware raytracing, mesh shading and other direct x12 ultimate requirements (Indiana Jones, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Doom: The dark Ages, and Alan Wake 2) I've been expecting it since last year tbh, but RDNA2 I can't explain that.
