#REALIDs
Because many do not know the requirements until they actually try to register.
Original birth certificates and RealIDs are not free to get or replace either and have long turn-around times.
Compared to states with same-day voter registration and zero voter fraud, TX is in the dark ages.

Could see the writing on the wall when DHS testified that REALIDs are easy to get and fake and J. Beaverstock said “it was kind of a pain in the rear when I got mine.”

I would imagine RealIDs are at least close enough to national IDs. Kentucky was the last state to get them and I had to show the DMV every document I ever had, up to and including a stool sample, to get my RealID.

Olive Garden aside, this whole argument is just so dishonest. They’ve already said RealIDs won’t be acceptable, so it’s not simply a picture ID. It’s a really expensive picture ID that is a pain to get. Passports are pretty much the only acceptable form of ID in this scenario.
Scalise: "For God's sake -- you can't get pasta at Olive Garden without a picture ID! Why not be able to show a picture ID to vote?"

Because the numbers are in the same ballpark, I'm going to guess its something like the RealID for non-citizens date mismatch error (RealIDs are supposed to expire when legal residency expires and there were California IDs where these dates did not match: abc7.com/post/325000-...)
325,000 Californians will need to replace REAL IDs due to DMV software error
The California DMV says some legal immigrants were issued REAL IDs that do not expire at the same time as their authorization to remain in the country. Now, they'll need to replace their REAL IDs.

No one should get one of those #RealIDs

Women have a right to vote without showing all the paperwork. We have RealIDs and have proven our citizenship and name change at the DMV. I’m not doing it again. If I have to, the men should too. You will need Original Birth certificate, Marriage License, my voting registration id for my address.

Trans people would have to out themselves by providing the different birth certificates along with proof of their legal name changes.
In states like Texas and Nebraska, all DLs must be RealIDs, forcing the same documentation just to get a DL. ⬇️

KY forced us to get RealIDs.
You have to show that RealID that the state forced you to get to register to vote.

It's all state & federal government taxes on voting.
And those used to be unconstitutional.

But so did a lot of things - like taking away people's due process & bodily autonomy.

Yeah I saw them whining even about the gold star RealIDs. You know, the ones that explicitly prove citizenship.

WI: we used our valid passports to get the WI RealID. To get the passports, we had to include official birth certificates and marriage license (For me).

WI RealIDs are issued to both citizens & legal immigrants w/ docs but no label on the RealID as to citizenship.

The bill itself has wording that fuels this confusion. It makes RealIDs *that prove citizenship* acceptable as ID at the polls. This sounds like any drivers license is acceptable, until you realize the only RealIDs that prove citizenship are "enhanced" ones from a few border states, rare even there.

In most states, a RealID doesn’t show Citizenship. Likely by design.

In Wisconsin, getting a RealID requires documents, like a valid passport. If no passport, then birth certificates, marriage certificates, proof of address. $$$

WI RealIDs have no citizenship marks. Worthless for SAVE act.
May 3, 2026 at 5:10 PM
You showed it but unless you live in one of 5 states that marks citizenship on the realID, it does not matter if you have a realID, they do not prove citizenship. Non citizens can get RealIDs.

I think it’s stupidly consistent because they believe RealIDs, which spent a decade and fortune on poorly partially rolling out, are easily faked and illegal immigrants all have them, so illegal immigrants are using those to fly and that’s why the SAFE act doesnt accept those as Voter ID.

Does ICE have REALIDs or Passports to get into the airport?
March 23, 2026 at 2:35 PM
Hmmm. Armed, masked, paid ICEholes "helping" unpaid TSA agents by checking travelers' RealIDs to ferret out "illegal" Somalis the week before No Kings Day. That'll please folks.

They allotted years for people to get realIDs. To insist on implementing these voting changes with only a few months to organize is in itself voter suppression.
March 16, 2026 at 9:14 PM
What does that have to do with anything? The question is whether a RealID proves citizenship. The fact that NY State issues RealIDs to non-citizens means it does not.
March 15, 2026 at 6:54 PM
Driver’s licenses, RealIDs and state IDs don’t count. If you are in a state that only does mail-in voting, guess what, we would have to go to polls in order to vote. No you don’t get the day off work to do so.

NH currently offers M/F/X markers. There's a bill in my committee to kill the X marker.

I've toyed with an amendment to remove the marker. Pretty sure it would make NH-issued RealIDs invalid. Might be worth it.

(Also, very much hoping we just kill it instead, but that's a stretch.)
#NHPolitics
Abolish the legal gender marker entirely. No government can be trusted to have a database of which people have changed theirs, no government has any business tracking what your gender is "supposed" to be in the first place.

What’s interesting to me is back in 2016 republicans hated “realIDs” said they were unconstitutional and how wrong it was to require them to buy guns and ammo. They flip flop so easily like the limp little Weiners they all are.
February 26, 2026 at 1:32 PM
We’ve had 20 years to get RealIds to fly and they have to keep extending the deadline because Americans can’t get it done - but we are all supposed to be ready for new ID requirements by November now.
February 24, 2026 at 6:20 PM
Yes. Immigration status. Hence the Eid could be issued to both citizens and noncitizens alike. Most states don’t differentiate. Hence I fear people will go to the polls with their realIDs, and be turned away.
