One of the interesting things looking back to fandom responses of yesteryear is, imo, how much quicker they were to call things a "x ripoff/clone". I think it's part of having a smaller media landscape with fewer releases per year, and also a lot of genres being nascent at the time.

I’m not gonna speak on quality because I haven’t seen it (I will say that I don’t buy the “Owl House ripoff” accusations, because “young girl goes to magic place” is a very common plot) but hey, if it’s good it’s good. If it’s bad, it’s bad.
