Erin’s radius of maximum wind (RMW) is only about 9km this morning. That is exceptionally small and characteristic of high-end rapid intensification in pretty much any basin.
At this rate, category 5 intensity is likely by later this morning or early afternoon.

Hurricane Milton is so small that its radius of maximum wind (RMW) is only 10 km - lots of hurricanes don't even have 10 km **eye diameter**!

Quick comparison of Melissa's structure from TDR now vs. 12 hours ago - while the inner core has barely changed with a similar peak wind speed & RMW, its hurricane-force wind field has slightly expanded. This is not a good development as it approaches Jamaica.

Crazy eye from #Erin TDR. RMW is tiny - something like 10nm - around the pinhole eye. This structure is what's allowing for the explosive intensification of last night. Note the radar too. No indications that an outer eyewall has formed quite yet, so Erin has some time still
