This past Tuesday, cold and snowy, was a @usktoronto @romtoronto meetup. I did these sketches a few days before the meetup.

1) the Dragonfly mid section of the majestic Sagaween pole;
2) 15 minutes outlines of a great setup;
3) another try, not exactly the same, but close!

Heads are ready to roll... out of @ROMtoronto
storage for study! Excavated at Tamassos, Cyprus, they were originally part of full-length standing votive figures. 3D scanning tech may identify matches to other excavated fragments.

Museums are not neutral spaces. They shape what is remembered, and what is erased.The Royal Ontario Museum (@romtoronto) is reportedly reconsidering the use of the name Palestine for Palestinian artifacts, following political pressure from pro-Israel groups. At a time when Palestinians are being starved, bombed, and erased in real time, this kind of historical revision is not administrative. It is ideological.Palestine is not a slogan. It is a documented geographic and cultural reality across centuries of maps, archives, and scholarship.Erasing the name is part of erasing the people.We refuse to be silent while cultural institutions participate in that erasure.📣 Tell the ROM: Name Palestine. Defend history. Reject erasure. ✍️ Sign the letter. Link in bio and stories!

The #Devonian Lungfish, Scaumenacia curta (ROMVP80068), that I saw at the @ROMtoronto. This specimen probably came from the Escuminac Formation Laggertätte of Québec, which most likely was a large estuary. it would have shared its environment with Elpistostege & Pterygotus.

Premier Doug Ford will unveil his new cabinet at 2 pm at the ⁦‪@ROMtoronto‬⁩. (Because of his winter election call, it’s too cold to swear in the executive council outside as was done in 2018 and 2022.)

Here is a historic facility that is a literally a diamond buried in the dirt that @TorontoComms, @ROMtoronto, nor @UofT can see. Shame

You can tell a lot about a #naturalhistory museum by looking at its shipping boxes! In #mammalogy, wood crates are often used to ship specimens. This box was sent by the @ROMtoronto to the #ummz, but it also has spent time at the @AMNH & @zsiwrcpune.
