Enjoying some success with the #SSTV event from the #ISS. RX on a QFH, not adjusting for Doppler. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio

Pretty good captures. ISS SSTV event July 2025. Manual and automated captures. Elk antenna, AnyTone 878 radio, audio processed in Audacity, decoded in RX-SSTV and TA-1 Turnstile, Nooelec SDR, RX-SSTV. QTH: Vancouver.

WSPR and SSTV monitoring station. This @SDRplay station uses an RSPdx tuner to monitor 20 m WSPR (14.0956 MHz) and 20 m SSTV (14.230 MHz) fed by an MLA-30+ loop antenna. Software: SDRuno, JTDX, RX-SSTV. Network Time Synchronization keeps the system clock in sync via NTP.

All set for the overnight passes of the ISS and the @arissintl.bsky.social SSTV event on 145.800 MHz, PD120 mode. Tracking in SatNogs. Turnstile antenna. Tuning in SDRuno. Decoding in RX-SSTV.

Fire up the SSTV gear ...

the ISS SSTV is a "go". Details in image below.

Set your SDR.receiver to 145.800, and leave it running around the clock for MM-SSTV or RX-SSTV to decode.

Starts 5:20 AM PDT Friday but we (here in Vancouver) don't get a pass until later. Anticipated pass lineup is here.

Second decode of the current pass, by which time I was rapidly approaching LOS, and you can tell 🤣 04:22 pass, still noisy, but acceptable @g7kna.co.uk @kingnerd1963.bsky.social @2m0etj.bsky.social @pc1i.bsky.social IO81MO #ISS #SSTV #RX-SSTV

Multimedia evening with the amateur radio satellites. T.Microsat-1 transmitting a few intro notes from Beethoven"s Ode to Joy, and Galapagos-UTE-SWSU transmitting SSTV images of the famous islands.

Using a TV Yagi antenna, Skyroof software, SDRplay RSPdx tuner, Audacity, RX-SSTV.

Well then!
Firstly, nice to get a UT SSTV station while I was waiting... nicer still to get F5RRS as my first SSB satellite QSO through RS-44.

It worked!

Ft818 rx on the uhf vertical. 991a tx with 5 elements vhf.
Colour me surprised!
Erm...
Boom i guess.. tiny trophy for me!

These four screens are always visible in my radio room. Time Mapper UHD, HamClock OHB, SDRuno/JTDX/RX-SSTV with WSPR and SSTV monitoring, SkyRook satellite tracking with Direwolf and RX-SSTV.

My setup for the ISS SSTV event. 5 element Yagi, mostly aimed S, connected to SDRplay RSPdx tuner, Skyroof for Doppler correction, RX-SSTV to decode sound to images.

03:33 pass, second image in the bag!! @g7kna.co.uk @kingnerd1963.bsky.social @2m0etj.bsky.social
@pc1i.bsky.social IO81MO #ISS #SSTV #RX-SSTV Doubly happy as I had to drop the antenna yesterday to 6' from 20' due to the high winds.

Ready for the overnight ISS passes and the @arissintl.bsky.social SSTV transmissions on 145.800 MHz, PD120 mode. TA-1 turnstile antenna, SDRplay RSPdx tuner. SDRuno and RX-SSTV software.

Managed a little SSTV decoding action from UmKA-1, last night, and this morning, as the cubesat passed over Metro Vancouver. Used a TV Yagi aimed south. No tracking. Capture through SkyRoof, decoding in MM-SSTV (RX-SSTV did not trigger).

We can enjoy SSTV images from the ISS for a while now. My first image from this series has arrived.

For the curious, this is my #ISS #SSTV setup. RX: A homebrew 145Mhz Moxon and an Icom ID-51. Decode: Lenovo Thinkpad running #Ubuntu Linux and QSSTV software

Complete setup for cubesat tracking and image decoding. Using SDR# (centre pane shows configuration for scheduling passes), Orbitron for Doppler Shift calcs, Direwolf for APRS decoding, RX-SSTV for image decoding (shown is image from VIZARD-METEO).

What I have so far from the April 2026 ISS SSTV event. 8 out of 12, most noisy, a couple of perfect captures. Yagi antenna, manually pointed but not tracked, SkyRoof and RX-SSTV software, @SDRplay RSPdx tuner. QTH: Vancouver.
