I think the deal should be electric ratepayers should subsidize the gas distribution network in exchange for the gas distribution network being steadily dismantled, with ratepayers getting years of notice to avoid stranded assets.

You know what happened to Hawke’s Bay (& probably other areas) after Cyclone Gabrielle? Instead of central government financial support for clean up, like Canterbury had after the quake, they foisted the costs onto ratepayers via the councils #nzpol

1. Actually addressing energy costs and reliability. Set aggressive reliability targets, completely restructure the MPSC and rate-setting to force investor-owned utilities to stop treating ratepayers as a blank check and restrict expenditures on advertising, etc. to non-revenue funding sources
Michigan peeps:

Seeing a lot of posts about what you want to happen at the National level, but I’m curious what your State wide priorities are?

Georgia Power ratepayers have been saddled with billions of dollars in cost overruns for the Vogtle nuclear plant. Wonder if/how the new Dem-run Public Service Commission can grapple with that generational cost ubrden. Too late to make investors (not ratepayers) pay imprudent costs, I guess.
In other lesser watched contests, Democrats will control Georgia's Public Service Commission for the first time in 30 years. The utility regulatory body is massively important in data center fights and energy affordability thecurrentga.org/2026/11/03/d...

Data centers with behind-the-meter gas turbines need to interconnect to gas pipeline networks, and gas utilities love to build the pipelines (permits permitting!), take the return on equity as shareholder profit, and recover the cost from other gas ratepayers.
Consistently - consistently! If you are worked up about a problem in the electric system, pause and ask about whether it's relevant to the gas system, too. More often than not, it's way, way worse over there, but regulators lack electric side tools to address it, and nobody's paying attention.
My new Substack! Data centers are rushing for natural gas, which will drive up everyone’s gas bills. This is a giant loophole in recent ratepayer protection pledges that needs to be closed. And clean power is the best way to do it.

Totally agree. I want to know, and have a right to know, if the elected officials in my area are going on Israeli junkets. I also want to know if Israel is paying for everything or is ratepayers money also being used🤔
