Lost Shore: How childhood trip to Hawaii inspired quarry in Ratho that’s become surfers’ paradise
Andy Hadden recently found the photographic evidence to back up an old childhood memory. In the frame he stands, aged seven, gazing out in wonder at the crashing waves on a trip to Hawaii.

Inside the spectacular, and vertigo-inducing, Edinburgh International Climbing Arena near Ratho, west of Edinburgh: unlike anything else you've ever seen before outside the set of a James Bond film. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...

"A wild animal is not a luxury. It is not a status symbol. And it should never become another toy for the affluent, valued for its rarity or the prestige it confers rather than for what it is—a living creature with a life and a place of its own."

Ratho (and the climbing arena and surfing centre) finally has a direct bus to Edinburgh! I don't live in Ratho anymore but I am still very excited that this has happened.

It's just economics. The more private wealth, the less public wealth and the less we benefit. Community, municipal, and public ownership is how we take our power back.

Do Ratho Coaches have some sort of special exemption from the thing about not needlessly leaving their engines running whilst parked at the side of Johnston Terrace whilst the Tattoo is on?

Jeez...Waterloo Pl-Haymarket in 10 minutes. It then takes another 36 minutes to reach the Ratho terminus.

Clearly Ratho needs bus lanes on every road in the village.

It was great to see Edinburgh and Not Edinburgh sort of pretending to be Edinburgh (the climbing arena is in Ratho, where I lived for a while. I used to get a coffee most days from the coffee shop inside it).

Integrated ticketing is a fair point. But Lothian’s available vehicles make supported services more expensive. For Ratho, I’d rather have an affordable direct bus to Edinburgh for one fare each way with another operator than no direct service. Currently, fare-paying passengers need to connect anyway

Ahh specifically to the EICA! I was confused why we were celebrating a bus to Ratho village once an hour.

Good news!

🚌 Great news for Ratho!

From 31 August, a new six-month trial bus service will connect Ratho directly with Edinburgh city centre, running hourly, seven days a week.

A huge thank you to the local community who have fought hard for better bus links.

Now let’s get on board and make it a success! 🚌

Just heard that my Uncle-in-law, who lives in Ratho & works on Jane St, has had his commute turn from 1 hour into 2 hours with the loss of the tram.

A bit shocking.
