#ReNationalisation
–Electoral reform
–Actual renationalisation of public services
–Proper taxation of the super-rich
-Kicking corporate lobbyists & big money influence out of politics

Anyone who thinks Burnham is actually going to do any of these is living in cloud cuckoo land.

They enacted the rail renationalisation bill to bring passenger services under public control as franchises expire, launched Great British Energy to co-invest in renewables, and created the National Wealth Fund to drive public-private green infrastructure investment.

I agree, but the electorate vote Conservatives in on a regular basis...even lardarse Johnson! Admittedly our archaic voting system doesn't help matters. Labour now are undoubtedly better...green energy, renationalisation, electoral reform...all on the cards hopefully

I wasn't aware of that Matthew - perhaps Burnham could get the renationalisation ball rolling 1st? Besides I have a feeling it won't just be a simple re-set back to our old EU position - & then there's the tabloid gnashing of teeth to overcome as well 🙄
October 1, 2026 at 8:43 AM
It would be a real shame if we rejoin the EU before renationalisation of trains, water, telecoms, deliveries, and energy, all under public interest companies.

This is a nonsensical position to have got themselves in. My recollection is that unions had no trouble taking strike action against state-owned British Rail. As you say it’s simply because they’ve touted renationalisation as being the answer to *everything*.
September 30, 2026 at 7:49 PM
But he doesn't. Playing shit pensions off against care, doing nothing to reverse the persecution of trans folk, allowing the disabled to be a target, not fully committing to renationalisation, and still supporting Israel as they commit genocide are just the first that come to mind. Far from all.

Currently we have law and a regulator; Burnham is not proposing renationalisation, just some vague stuff about mayors being involved. I say we need thoroughgoing Barberism [Michael Barber's deliverology] rather than "more public control", which is just a slogan
September 30, 2026 at 4:05 PM
He didn’t make any commitment to renationalisation did he?
September 30, 2026 at 12:06 PM
Something of note; with the reports that Burnham is apparently swaying towards free personal care model as done in Scotland, this combined with moves to enable water renationalisation, and electoral reform...is Andy Burnham just making England into Scotland under devolution?
September 30, 2026 at 8:10 AM
Very well said Sarah. Labour returning to its socialist roots plus a determination to defeat fascism. The country has been desperate to hear this since the days of Thatcher. Social housing, renationalisation, a national care service, a new system of education - investment in the nation's wellbeing.

10yr #$GILTS wkly - Conspicuously failing to make new momo lows on Luvedup's conference speech with triple lock wavering seemingly fiscally over-compensating for oddball renationalisation noises. Was thinking of calling Gilts Royal Ponzis, but christening must await renewed dnside! Cld rally ST/IT?

There was a bit about renationalisation of water

Hugely cynical announcement on electoral reform, actually quite sinister, done to purely benefit Labour. Let’s blame it all on the 1980s…errr Labour were in power ‘97-2010! Eye watering renationalisation bill, who will pay? Hope only gets one so far.

That's very careful wording. He didn't say renationalisation. So what does he actually mean?
September 29, 2026 at 3:29 PM
The more I hear about the Burnham speech the less I am reassured. I am a pensioner & can afford the cessation of the triple-lock - but not until 2030? That is around or just after the election! Renationalisation of public utilities, notably water companies, needs to be addressed now BUT… waffle!
September 29, 2026 at 3:15 PM
Good news! Privately owned utilities paying out shareholder dividends at the expense of investment and higher bills can't possibly be considered "serving the public interest", so I guess we can look forward to renationalisation soon.

Barnstorming speech from Burnham. Renationalisation, Social Housing, triple to double lock on pensions, Public electricity grid, PR or similar, Brexit reset, National Care Service and devolution.
Love it.

Bursts the vibe David! 😅

True enough though, ditto the logical follow-on, that renationalisation will help get us back to the bucolic steam age or whatever 🚂
