The “we just decided to let readers judge for themselves” bullshit sounds all nice and fair and neutral but it is important to understand that it is not. There are infinite true things that exist in the world. The choice of which things to tell readers to allow them to assess *is a choice.*

IME a lot of NYT readers vastly underestimate the credentials of most independent journalists.
counterpoint: while the nyt et al aren’t remotely above criticism, journalism is defined by a set of editorial processes, and a lot of people who at best blog their opinions and have never reported a school board meeting more or less advocate for the destruction of journalism qua journalism
I almost respect a rightwing partisan hack more than a supposed neutral journalist because their motives are made plain. A journalist will look you right in the eye and tell you that the rightwing outcomes they are obviously agitating for are neutral and, in fact, noble of them to pursue...

The Express - who spent twenty years telling their readers readers that leaving the EU would mean cheaper food and energy bills - are warning PM not to engage in EU fantasies.

#vent there’s a lot of “readers should do this” “readers should do that”
And yes, absolutely, I can only hope readers come to understand a fraction of what goes into fic writing/this art that we create for free. But really what I hope is that writers do it for other writers more often.

it's just annoying when you go to random black people like sensitivity readers

The NYT is not allowing readers to post comments on this article, which is a real shame.
Gullible Glenn Thrush writes in NYT that the Trumpist campaign against voter fraud is driven by memories of the "stolen" election of 2020? What horseshit. It's an attempt to disenfranchise minorities and cast doubt on the results. (And they all know it wasn't stolen.) www.nytimes.com/2026/11/02/u...
In Run-Up to Midterms, Legacy of 2020 Looms Large Over Justice Dept.
The refusal of top department officials to acknowledge Donald J. Trump’s loss that year is the engine driving an intensifying effort to intercede in state administration of elections.

I fell victim to the self-imposed schedule and forced myself to put out pages despite experiencing intense grief, in fear of losing readers. It's not worth it, you'll lose readers in the end anyway, and most of them are casual readers. You can't pay medical bills with a free comic.
webcomics arent real you can do anything you want. you can have an update schedule of 3x a week or once a year or no update schedule at all. you can take. a year or 2 off to recover from drawing your comic or draw something else to get your spark back. you probably arent getting paid so do whatever.

Also a dozen articles, podcasts, newsletters, and videos from a single news company in three days is not “we’re just presenting the facts and letting the readers decide.” Obviously. We are not idiots.

Their reactions are quite telling because, before this point, many AI proponents argued that enough readers would not care if they learned an entertaining book was AI. Now those readers will learn it from the source itself. What is suddenly the issue now, if the intention was never creative fraud?
Gotta admit I'm getting a lot of schadenfreude from the freakouts about Claude's watermarks and the horrifying idea you might actually have to do your own work to get credit for the work.
