#Reamde
if not outright hostility, to the use of anything that a coastal foodie would define as an ingredient.

Neal Stephenson, Reamde

Outra distopía á que apuntó Neal Stephenson en REAMDE hai 15 anos: cando estás xogando, estás a traballar para alguén sen decatarte
This might be one of the most insane scandals in game history

When Pokemon Go players scan PokeStops, theyve been unknowingly building a detailed visual model of the world which is being sold to a military contractor to build a no-GPS positioning for the new generation of unmanned killing machines

For those of you who didn't like/read #Reamde, sorry for the 2-day flurry of quotes. It seems that I was really into Reamde quotes in the first quarter of 2019.

I would settle for Snow Crash.

Though Reamde is probably the easiest to adapt.

The conferencing software described in REAMDE sounds so much more fun than Zuck's Metaverse ever did
April 11, 2026 at 6:04 PM
Ready Player One only had a bit of interesting stuff going on, and that interesting stuff it stole from Snowcrash and The Diamond Age: or a Young Ladies’ Primer. I highly recommend both and really anything Neal Stephenson wrote before Reamde (when he started writing books glorifying billionaires).

I'm gonna make the air fryer burn an image of a dick into someone's food like it's Reamde

In celebration of Hungary voting out Orban, here’s all my quotes concerning Csongor in #Reamde 🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺🗳️
YOUR WAFFLE'S DONE!
Yuxia figured out how to open the waffle iron & deposited its steaming load onto a plate.
The squeal stopped.
Csongor wanted to try it now. He picked up a carafe of waffle batter & poured it & watched broodingly as it infiltrated the valleys between the bumps.

I dropped engaging fully with Neal after Anathema, which I hate read to its conclusion so as to not be defeated by him and claim a moral victory, and then I read as much REAMDE as I could until I was overcome by toxins and passed out. I will give him one more chance.
@tychobrahe.bsky.social "Cultural shift is in some ways a function of baud rate" is *chefs kiss*
Also, have you read "Fall" by Neal Stephenson? It was written only 6-7 years ago but he did a great job of predicting the signal to noise ratio of information on the internet dropping to near zero.

I am rereading "Reamde" by Neal Stephenson for the 6th time: a big fat book of nonstop action and witty dialogue.

Am always fascinated by how foreign publishers decide to title some English-language novels. I had to look at the copyright page to see which @nealstephenson.bsky.social book this is! In fairness, REAMDE is not exactly translatable.

this was a sub-sub-plot in #NealStephenson 's REAMDE.

Fall, or Dodge in Hell. It's the sequel to REAMDE but you will also need to have read Cryptonomicon and the Baroque Cycle, as he has gone full Dark Tower trying to tie it all up neatly.
September 17, 2026 at 5:13 AM
Not to be confused with Reamde by @nealstephenson.bsky.social!

(To be clear, both books are related--either directly or indirectly--to the history of computing, but that's where the similarities end...)

Want some summer reading? How about a "book about books about computing"??

I have a new book out via @mitpress.bsky.social

Now I'm put in mind of REAMDE.
May 24, 2024 at 3:36 AM
I remember Neal Stephenson was clearly really mad about this based on a page of dialog in REAMDE
September 20, 2026 at 5:17 AM
I’d say Reamde and Snow Crash are the easiest and most accessible. Cryptonomicon… well if you want a quick way to decide if you love or hate him.
September 29, 2025 at 3:47 PM
So the Baroque Cycle and REAMDE were all written by hand...?

Holy moly!
September 27, 2026 at 7:08 PM
I much preferred Reamde, even with the callbacks to the Baroque Cycle in Fall
April 29, 2025 at 2:58 AM
and we can talk about reamde later because I still need to put together all the ways I think that book sucks ass
September 1, 2026 at 7:29 AM
Reamde was like that too, a hilarious plot of an MMRPG combined with a weird terrorism thriller that was fine
