We're already up to $1400 of plumbing before we even start on the deconstruction/construction/drying/recarpeting/repainting parts- so far insurance has covered $150 of that 💀

when we've closed for construction (recarpeting, asbestos abatement, etc.) in the leadup we encouraged people to take AS MANY BOOKS as they wanted (which they can do anyway)

I'm thinking next summer is my recarpeting the bedrooms summer, and I'm just dreading it. I don't mind the expense because I can save for that, it's moving all the stuff out while it's being done, and then back in again.

They continue to charge rent even though no one is living there, they often insist on new kitchens and bathrooms, plus repainting and recarpeting, and they don't put it back on the market for months, so rent/rates/water etc needs to be paid. (those are a few of the scams.)

We finally got our library back in usable condition after recarpeting the boys rooms. So nice to have a quiet space again.

It should have been, but they were served notice for the state the property was in. I can only imagine that the deposit was used to finance the bathroom refit (honestly, I dread to think) and the complete recarpeting upstairs and redecoration. Can't have been a lot left for a full clean.

Yeah, had to leave my last cats behind in UK back in 2001. No pets ever since. LONGED for cat. We're hoping to avoid recarpeting. Part of deal with boss is we have carpet cleaned every year. It's not a huge job, 2 bed townhouse, carpet only on stairs and upstairs.

Yes but as the previous tenants had been in for 8 years, I can't imagine their deposit was more than about £1k and I would think the recarpeting would have come close to that! Plus 2 new bathrooms. It's the kitchen they didn't bother with, not like that's important...
