Les référendums n’ont pas fait plus que 85%?

Over 32 years, Wales has three devolution referendums.

1979
1997, which over turned the 1979 ref
2011, which augmented the 1997 ref.

Two TCDSU Irish language referendums pass

Two TCDSU Irish language referendums pass
Both proposed student-wide referendums have passed, after their passing at the final council of last year.  The two motions, ‘Rún le Polasaí Fadtéarmach Gael-Ollscolaíochta a Thabhairt Isteach | Motion to Introduce a Long-Term Policy on Gael-Ollscolaíocht’ and ‘Motion on a Constitutional Amendment to Ensure the Quality of Irish Translations’, focus on the Irish language. The long-term policy mandates the union to lobby at the national and collegiate level for more extensive Irish-medium education, including the availability of courses in Irish, the ability to submit coursework and dissertations in Irish, and an increase in courses taught exclusively through Irish.

This is very important - the voting rights restored after a felony conviction along with removing the ban on same sex marriage and enshrining the right to abortion, all three ballot referendums are crucial. And I hope all Virginians vote yes on all three of them this November.
Arguably the biggest democracy referendum next month:

Virginia is one of only three states where the state constitution says people should lose their right to vote FOR THEIR ENTIRE LIFE if they are convicted of any felony.

This measure would allow anyone to vote after prison.
“It’s Time”: Virginians Will Decide Whether to Repeal Jim Crow-Era Lifetime Ban on Voting - Bolts
Voters will decide this year whether to end Virginia’s uniquely harsh felony disenfranchisement rules. They'll also vote on abortion, gay marriage, and redistricting.

We are consistently disenfranchised and removed from the creation and drafting of the referendum ballots, which is the source of 60+ years of protesting and boycotting the referendums.

They see general elections and referendums differently, with the latter only being used sparingly. Given the state of the last one in 2016 (and considering we are a parliamentary democracy), I do understand the impulse. But there is no rule about it.

Now Alito speaks for women? That's funny, because when you ASK women, they pass referendums in favor of abortion...which is also less abstract and more consequential...but ignored by the SC.

Given that the amendment approved by voters in 2024 led to absolutely nothing, I'm not sure "repeal" is the correct word here. They simply want to make ignoring the previous referendum official.

How about we have a referendum on whether or not referendums should be enforced?

And I'm actually getting emails about CO referendums that say "Gov. Polis says..."
How stupid can Democrats be?

People in VA, there are 3 referendums on the ballot this year and this one is huge. The other two are also majorly important. One of which is to remove the ban on same sex marriage from the state constitution and the other is about adding the right to abortion.

For most of my life, there has been discussion in Quebec to separate from the rest of Canada, including from my own relatives. There were 2 provincial referendums that were defeated at margins too close for comfort, if I'm being honest.

Failing to recognize the failures and shortcomings from the prior referendums while trying to state you want to force a new one defeats the whole purpose.

No one said keep it going.

What are you talking about?

I'm talking about the lack of input in the referendums in PR by the PIP and how they're strong armed out of the process by the two ProUS party's, and how that affects results via the boycotts and protests.

The EU (commission) doesn't decide who becomes a candidate member, the 27 member states do. Each country has their own electorate, their own interests and each has a veto on any applicant. Some may hold referendums to decide on an applicant.

A large part of trying to join the EU is politics.

Why would a country as bad at referendums as the UK hold a referendum on *anything*? If it held a referendum on being kind to kittens, people would vote "no" because they don't like whoever is the prime minister on the day, or they think their neighbour was allowed to build too tall a fence.

Problems being that if Greens wanted independence referendums and Labour didn't, that could be awkward, and GPEW getting Scotland if the Scottish Greens weren't in coalition or even necessarily in parliament could be an issue, even having done that for NI for decades.

Are you disputing they were referendums about leaving?

One election won't be enough to convince the EU members this time the UK will be a viable member.
