And #RentStabilization has passed the #WALeg House 53-42!

Apologies for missing the screenshot of the vote board, it flew by before I had a chance! You can see how your legislator voted by clicking "View Roll Calls" at the bottom of the list here: app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary/...

Last year, conservative Democrats on key #WALeg committees killed this bill. Two of them — Sens. Mark Mullet & Kevin Van De Wege — did not run for re-election last year and will no longer be in the Senate.

Now #RentStabilization is being named early as a priority for this session!

Alvarado cont: "A record number of Washingtonians are spending more than 50% of their income on rent. We are in a housing shortage, we need guardrails against landlord price gouging."

#RentStabilization caps excessive rent increases, but exempts new construction for 10 years.

When #WALeg failed to advance tenant protections in 2024, advocates stepped up in cities to pass them.

Those were big wins, but also created a patchwork, which #WALeg has the chance to standardize this year by passing #RentStabilization!

Here's my comment to the SF Planning Commission this week, speaking out against this owner/developer plot to destroy #rentStabilization in #SanFrancisco.
My heart goes out to the mother and little girl behind me, who backed it, thinking if they just make Billionaires happy, maybe they'll play nice?

Rent stabilization is about just that—people staying in their communities. Means testing would miss the point.

Sorry folks, I know other things have happened in the near and distant past, but today, I'm only posting about #rentstabilization and the fight in #SanFrancisco city hall today to push back against Billionaire developer lobbyists trying to displace and destroy 60% of the renters in our city. #lgbt

Matter of fact, most apartments SHOULD be rent controlled. #Rentstabilization is key to long term + growing families.

And I want to build a world where Hasan LOSES a lot of his investment there because prices come down to meet real living wages!

If he paid $3million and you pay $300k, we all win!
When Hasan Piker bought a $2.7 million house in LA for him and his family to live in, critics said he wasn’t a real socialist because it’s too expensive. When Zohran Mamdani rents a $2,300 a month apartment in NYC, critics say it’s too cheap for him and he’s not a real socialist. It’s all bad faith

(I needed some good news today, and maybe you do too. If so, feel free to read this play by play by @fusewashington.org and bask in a little hope for the future for 40% of Washingtonians.) #rentstabilization #waleg #democraticwin
The legislation has passed 29 ayes to 20 nayes!

While this isn't the version of the bill we had planned to celebrate passing, this is still a monumental first step towards keeping families housed in our state! #WALeg

Good morning #SanFrancisco!
Do you live in or near one of the areas highlighted on this map?

Surprise, no you don't, if Billionaires, property bros and developer lobbyists get their way!

These fascists want to abolish #rentstabilization by upzoning the city, building supertalls nobody can afford

Rep...errrrrr...Sen. Alvarado is making the case for why #rentstabilization is needed TODAY.

"Housing is a foundation. Washingtonians deserve a foundation that is stable and secure."

This is a very good speech.
