#RepealThe8th
The Social Democrats will today introduce a bill aimed at updating Ireland's abortion laws, especially to ensure that women do not need to travel abroad to terminate a pregnancy.

I remember the journalists we were all asked to debate here in Ireland alone, who said #metoo was going too far.
Oh! They were anti #repealthe8th too.
You’re never going to guess* what the rest of their stances are, or who they now work for.
*You will totally guess

The colonialism of British TERFs is through the roof. Again. This open letter from Irish feminists to British transphobes in 2018 remains relevant.

Where was JK Rowling's money for #RepealThe8th? But she has it to spread British Anti-LGBT hate in Ireland? #Spéirgorm

62% of people who voted to #repealthe8th cited ‘a woman’s right to choose’ as the primary reason for their vote.

How’s that for democratic legitimacy?
"This bill has no democratic legitimacy" my brother in Christ do you understand what a fucking Parliament does
People who fought for Repeal would be stunned to see the approach Sinn Féin are taking to abortion reform and our legislation, the Reproductive Rights (Amendment) Bill.

It's appalling to see a self-proclaimed progressive party turn heel on progressing women's healthcare.

24 May 2018 - what a journey! Travelling back to Dublin & asking people to #BeMyYes in the referendum to #RepealThe8th
An incredible campaign #AbortionIsHealthcare

I miss what twitter was to me once. When I was doing canvassing work on Capel Street Bridge for #repealthe8th I put up a post about how hot it was and wondering if I'd get sunburnt and someone came to the bridge with factor 50 for me.

It was stories like this that helped educate the Irish public on voting to #repealthe8th in our constitution especially series of posts ok Facebook called #inhershoes and of course Savita Halappanavar RIP #speirghorm

Remember the tone policing of #marref and #repealthe8th?
There is no acceptable way to protest the right, in their opinion - they are afraid of any and all criticism of their behaviour and ideas.
I just don't know what people actually want us to do.

Should we have not commented on his post? Should we have just left it up to the centrists and far right to say "Yeah actually he has a point when he says there is an immigration problem".

Would that be been better in the long run?

This day 7 years ago I spent most of the day crying.
Tears of joy, tears of stress release, so many tears,
thankfully I was surrounded by friends, who hugged and held me.

I had predicted we would win the #repealthe8th referendum by at least 60% and I was right :)

Watch these guys. Always. We did not go through #RepealThe8th and all those years of trauma, just to have these clowns tamper with our Constitution and law again.
Aontu seeking to undo repeal - lots of anti-choicers are running in #GE24 and aren't being so open about their forced-birth ideas. Ask candidates if they're pro-choice and be sure to vote for pro-choice candidates 🙏

Sinn Fein reaching across the aisle from their seats beside Aontú, Ind. Ireland, FFFG & Iona.
Fook SF & fook you if you still think they are a credible opposition party - just more of the same populist centrist & right wing nonsense. For Shame.

Say it loud again & again. Lest it be forgotten & misused by people who would normally ban abortion, but seem happy to hold on to the 3 day rule.

“IT WAS INTRODUCED SO THEY COULD GET SIMON COVENEY ACROSS THE LINE”

A waste of space of a man, with no basis in rationality.

Irish Twitter was really something. So many laughs and such a strong community. #repealthe8th was an especially strong moment that was amazing to watch from afar.

Hate, hate, hate that this is happening to my trans neighbours on the planet. The levels of stupidity and cruelty are horrific.

Incidentally, I encountered Graham during Ireland's RepealThe8th campaign. A comparison of his behavior then and now suggests you're right and he's increasingly unwell

TFMR was the reason I got vocal and heavily involved with the #RepealThe8th campaign, and legislation failed them from the beginning. The legislation was only ever a starting point for me. Time to amend, time to update, time to expand.

Yeah she doesn't represent me or all those who voted to #repealthe8th or for #marriageequality or anyone who who wants a separation of church and state.

We do not need you here. We have not had your support in our fight for #repealthe8th, our fight against the historical and ongoing impact of the…

Popped over to other place to see how anti choice brigade are taking things. Cute to see they think another referendum is possible.

But tiresome to see same old arguments, put to bed 8 years ago. Religious nuts.

Remove the waiting period & allow all to have a choice.

Both the SSM referendum & repealthe8th campaigns relied heavily on social media to organise, fundraise and advocate for their causes. Politicans who went on social media were showed a plurality of voices and could communicate directly with the electorate.

Can you imagine that today?

No, me either.

In many ways, the campaign to repeal the Eighth Amendment was a product of its time. In 2012, social media was relatively free from suppressive algorithms. The hashtag #RepealThe8th was first used on Twitter by a now-private account on 25th November 2012. It swiftly went viral.

Th American Association of Pro Life OBGYNs released a statement on the death of Tierra Walker

“Maternal-fetal separation”?

She needed an abortion to save her life.

Her eclampsia started early, before the fetus was viable.

Say the word so that everyone knows the draconian bans killed this woman

IIRC research around the time of referendum to repeal Ireland's constitutional ban on abortion #RepealThe8th showed that the majority of people who traveled to the UK or EU countries to get abortions were already parents.

Mothers need abortions too.
