Hello everyone! I teach a class for graduate students on methods for reproducible research. 🔧 🔢

I would interested to hear about the barriers you face in implementing reproducible practices in your research (e.g., version control, code review, reproducible documents).

remembering when we called the products of writers and artists and musicians “works” (count noun, individual things made) instead of “content” (mass noun, reproducible interchangeable filler)
OpenAI CTO Mira Murati: “Some creative jobs maybe will go away, but maybe they shouldn't have been there in the first place if the content that comes out of it is not very high quality.”

not reproducible ≠ wrong/false/fluke
reproducible ≠ true

not reproducible ≠ poor science
reproducible ≠ good science

reproducibility of results is not a reliable indicator of truth/research quality/epistemic progress.

replication of a poorly designed study is another poorly designed study.

Reproducibility depends heavily on where you start.

From authors' final analysis data:
✅: 58.2% fully reproducible
🟡: 32.8% partially reproducible
❌: 9.0% not reproducible

From raw data:
✅: 28.4% fully reproducible
🟡: 34.3% partially reproducible
❌: 37.3% not reproducible

So (a) using a *lot* of energy to do what you can currently "control-F" seems like a waste, and (b) LLM answers aren't reproducible.
